But the topic will be controversial once again because if our Scholars do not come to the fore then how are they going to defend Islam?
Any way I had tried earlier to watch some of the parts but it never really gelled. Finally I forced myself to watch it full and it was not enjoyable. If you do not know Islam then you can not defend it. Unfortunately too many of those who do not know Islam try to teach us Islam.

But shows like these anchored by biased presenters, with everything geared against you is not the way. The show followed an agenda and the good points were marginalised or overshadowed by the vociferous views of the ignorant and that is the lingering impression that is left on the audience and viewers.

What it shows is that the average Muslim is confused about the religion so much so that even obligatory things are put into the realm of "personal choice" and this is something that needs to be addressed urgently not just in India but throughout the Muslim world. Sharing platforms like this with people who only spout ignorance will only increase the confusion of young Muslims.

And this point was noted by many contributors to the thread but it got buried in details. In reality it deserves more attention, pondering and action. Though I have not seen it but we recently had another episode of bashing on part of the same establishment - in case of the cancelled visit of a notorious writer.
It is evident that even media and reference savvy Zakir Naik is no match for some of the detractors of Islam and Muslims.

On the dot again. This is the current mindset and world view about Muslims and we are doing nothing to challenge it.

May be the average Muslim is not that confused about Islam. There is the presence of our Scholars and Elders. There is Tablighi Jama-at. Even other organizations are there and their presence is not unnoticed. Viewership of Zakir Naik, even Dr Israr Ahmed, will be much more than the programme we are considering. The point of worry is the interface of Islam with modernity. That is left unrepresented by we Muslims. This has given or least left the modern Muslims with enough confidence to go ahead and represent Islam.

The only man whom I have seen go onto a mainstream media platform, whether TV or radio, and be able to articulate and defend his beliefs is George Galloway. That guy really knows how to talk. And he knows what he is talking about. He never lets the host dictate the terms of the discussion. He starts shouting if he has to. Really a remarkable speaker.

Precisely these are the type of questions that should have been addressed in this thread. Instead it got stuck on a single point - whether Hazrat Mahmood Madani Sahab (DB) should have been on the show or not. But, to be fair, some relevant points did come out of the thread. The matter of fact is that programme had already taken place and in spite of our reservations about its validity we should have focused upon the lessons learned. That, I think, has not been done thoroughly.

When I reflect upon the discussion now (after 2 years) I do agree that Maulana Mahmood Madani shouldn't have shared the dias with SRK and Soha Khan. Other than that if not for one SF user's prejudiced views regarding Dilip Kumar and SRK, this thread would have gone in a better direction. Allahu Alam.
