If you're doing it by yourself you should have the qualifications(to make sure your kids are learning correctly) and the time.

From what I've seen, children at that age usually have a short attention span but are very impressionable and most things that they learn get engraved into their heads.

Repetition so that their tongues (not just their brains) memorize letters, reading words ect.

Revision so that they can keep what they've memorized.

Another thing you have to consider when you teach them the Qur'an from the home is discipline with their work and time. That varies with the attention span and behavior of the child and the teaching methods of their parent and how much time is spent with the child.

There's a whole lot more but that's what I can think of as major points.

They have a Quran teacher, so I am not their main teacher however he has asked us to revise. My children have learned Juz Amme maashAllah in four months just going three times a week - they stay 3hrs/lesson.

How do I help them revise at home? I am homeschooling so time is not an issue. Our mornings can be devoted to Quran inshaAllah - but like you say, only for a limited time. How do I revise with them? Do I make them recite the surah they know just once? twice? And when they make a mistake how do I go over it?

    JazakAllah khair.

Oh snap that memorizing is above average! Make them 'huffaath quickly

If they have a teacher already then I think it's best to do revision with them only because two separate teachers in tajweed/hifth at the same time often leads to confusion.

You have them recite until they make no mistakes in their lessons/revision. That's the goal. Even if that takes 25 or 40 times. At the same time you should be lenient, too. So have a rule that the maximum amount of mistakes they can make in their revision is 3, 5, or 7 or according to their teachers rules and/or your evaluation of them (that's for the 1st type of mistake). If they make mistakes they should be corrected; meaning they go over that mistake until its read/memorized correctly. And that could take any number of times (for the second type of mistake).

    Two diff types of mistakes.

    1. Mistakes in memory but can be corrected when reminded or remembered.
    2. Mistakes in wording or in memory that can't be corrected when reminded.

In hifth, I remember my asaatithah used to count a tajweed error as a complete mistake and send me back to re-say my lesson if I said it with hesitation or doubt.

different strokes for diff folks I guess.

Yes the mornings are the best times for hifths. According to the hadith of Rasulullah there is blessings in the mornings for this ummah.

Oh yeah, revise with them in a place in the home where there are no distractions and all of you are able to give their all to revision.

    Assalamualaikum,

I have no idea whether that is average or not?

What is asaatitah? So do I make them just recite from Surah Nas backwards? And make them stop at the first mistake, correct them and make sure they recite that ayaat properly until no mistakes, yes? At the moment I just make them recite constantly, and if they make a mistake, they correct each other and then keep going.

If you live in the west, it's deff above average.

asaatithah is the Arabic word for teachers.

You can make them revise from Suratun Naas or from their recent lesson. Either or. About their mistakes, yes do that. Be flexible for mistake .1 and be a little strict for mistake .2. and in general don't let mistakes pass without correcting otherwise they memorize with mistakes.

At that level in hifth, it's way better if you correct them. Almost always students don't catch most of their mistakes in hifth.
