Hadhrat Sayyid Ahmad ibn Irfan shaheed Rahimahullahu Ta'ala was born in the prominent Raiberailvi family of Hasani Hussayni sadaat (decendants of Hasan al-Muthanna bin Hasan bin `Ali and Fatimah al-Sughrah bint Hussayn bin `Ali Radhi Alahu Ta'ala `anhum) on 2nd Safar 1201 H. His maternal grandfather Sayyid Abu Sa'eed al-Hasani was one of the khulafaa of Hadhrat Shah Waliullah muhaddith Dihlawi and one of his paternal and maternal ancestors Sayyid Shah `Alamullah was an eseemed scholar at the time of the king Aurangzeb `Alamgir Rahimahumullahu Ta’ala.

In his late teens Sayyid Ahmad developed a desire to learn the Deen and went to Dehli with the intention of studying under Hadhrat Shah `Abdul `Aziz muhaddith Dihlawi rahimahullahu Ta'ala. He initially advanced very rapidly in learning the Deen, it is narrated from Hadhrat Mian Ji Muhammadi rahimahullah that he said, "When I started studying kafiyah under Maulana Shah Muhammad Ishaq Sahib(the Khaleefah of Shah `Abdul `Aziz), Sayyid sahib arrived and started Meezan under him but he advanced so rapidly that he caught up with me in Kafiyah somewhere beyond the middle of the book and at the same time he started studying Mishkat from Shah sahib and he used to study some book from Maulvi Isma'eel sahib as well".

However this state did not last long and a batini state came over Sayyid sahib rahimahullah which made him unable to read anything, whenever he would look into a book, the letters would disappear from his sight. Sayyid sahib referred to physicians but they were unable to cure him, when Hadhrat Shah `Abdul `Aziz rahimahullah heard of this state he asked Sayyid sahib whether he could focus on netting and other fine things or would such things disappear from his sight as well, Sayyid sahib replied that he could see everything else, no matter how fine, except for writing. At this Shah sahib commanded him to stop studying when someone objected to this Hadhrat Shah sahib rahimahullah said that this condition was a sign from Allah subhanahu wa Ta'ala that it was not in Sayyid sahib's destiny to learn the dhahiri `ilm rather he would be the recipient of `ilm al-Ladunni.

Yet another sinner surviving on Ar Rahman's rahm, Ar Rauf's affection, Al Hadi's guidance, Al Ghafoor's forgiveness, Ar Razzaq's rizq and Al Qawi's strength.
