I would never believe anything BBC write. More than likely, the muslims in jail have in the most part re-discovered their Deen mashallah, and this rehabilitation is causing an Islamic revival amongst not just non practising muslim brothers but non muslim brothers who became converts.

A muslim gang is more sensational than a white supremacist gang? A Black gang? Chinese Triad gang?

I wouldn't be terribly surprised; most US gangs get started by young people as a way to protect themselves from harassment as schools and in their neighborhoods. From what I've heard, a lot of Muslims have this same problem in certain areas in Britain, so it's not surprsing they'd form a gang to protect themselves.
