There are three levels of minimum wage, and the rates from 1 October 2009 are:

    * 5.80 per hour for workers aged 22 years and older
    * a development rate of 4.83 per hour for workers aged 18-21 inclusive
    * 3.57 per hour for all workers under the age of 18, who are no longer of compulsory school age

A quick answer... before it's deleted as an unIslamic thread

Not sure if this what you're asking but, the minimum wage is worked out according to the hour. The lowest an employer can legally pay is:
5.73 to 5.80 an hour for workers aged 22 and over
4.77 to 4.83 an hour for workers aged 18 to 21
3.53 to 3.57 an hour for workers aged 16 to 17

How much you would need to live is another thing and would depend on the area you live in, number of dependents and lifestyle. The government give people who are not working around 60 a week (depending on other factors). I know a few sisters awho live on this rate. One finds it adequate while the other finds it nowhere near enough to live on.

Just to add to Soupy's comment, if you are living on minimum wage and the husband is the only one working, you would probably receive housing and council tax benefits, if you were to apply for that of course.
