    Default Question about freewill

    Asalamu alaykum,

I want to answer a brother who has asked a question related to free-will in Islam and I need to confirm something: Has Allah already predestined who will go to jannah and jahanum?

What about duas being able to change destiny (from hadith)?

Say Allah has destined a person to go to hell but that person makes plenty of dua for jannah, would Allah change this person's destiny (what was originally planned for him)?

    السلام عليكم

The question is related to the subject of Qadar and it is best treated in his "26th Word" by Bediuzzaman. I have studied Taftazani's huge work on the subject but never able to understand it, until I read 26th Word. Because of its fragility and extreme accuracy I personally would avoid delving into answering any bit of it except for the referral to an amazing work mentioned above which is about 6-8 pages in total.

I heard some say that this topic cannot be entirely understood, but I vouch and claim the opposite; if only they have read 6-8 pages long extra work...

    و عليكم السلام

Brother Verdana, would it be possible to post a link to the 6-8 pages you mentioned, if they are available online anywhere?

Brother ssjkakarot: I try to deal with this issue pretty simplistically. I just remind myself that it is inconceivable that Allah does NOT know every single action and thought of mine from my birth until my death, as Allah knows everything. Therefore, He knew before I was born whether or not I would spend nights and days weeping for His forgiveness and begging for Him to save me from Jahannam. He knows the state of my heart during my final seconds. He knows whether or not I will strive to win His love and forgiveness throughout my life. This may not be a correct way of viewing predestiny (Qadar no doubt involves much more complex concepts - inshaAllah if I can read the work referred to by Br. Verdana, I may get a better grasp on things). I'd be happy and grateful to be corrected.

Divine help means to have enough strength to do good deeds, when one intends to do.

Since Allah possesses complete knowledge of everything, then doesn't He have to have knowledge of this as well?
