    Question Where to start...

    SalaamUAlaykam,

I'm very new to this forum and just figuring out how to use it! I've been away from the deen for too long...and recently realised the huge error of my ways. I'm desperately trying to fix up and fix my ways, and although the basics are there I lack so much knowledge. I've got hold of some purification works by Al Ghazali, Imam 'Abdallah ibn 'Alawi Al Haddad and some work by Habib Umar bin Hafiz that I'm loving to read. But I would also like some stuff about the basics, any recommendations of a good place to start would be much appreciated!

I think sister starding by reading the Koran (not neccerarly the mere recitations in arabic) but the translation/interpretion of the Kuran will be inshallah a very good boost.

As for the basics like how to perform salat and all, I think an ilmihal would do.... Reliance of the Traveller by Nuh Ha mim Keller is also very good and its quite indepth.

    Selamu Aleikum

Masha Allah! The mashayekh you mentioned are amazing. I suggest you get this: http://www.whitethreadpress.com/publ...essentials.htm , since you are a Hanafi. Learning this knowledge is in line with what the scholars of purification meantion including Imam al-Haddad and Habib `Umar. Make learning what is in the Absolute Essentials book your first priority, and read the purification works on encouragement to act upon your knowledge in a more holistic sense.

Taleemul-Haq and Bashisti Zewar, especially the latter book covers probably most knowledge a normal Muslim will need for his every-day life. (Taleemul-Haq has originally been written for children, but for beginners this is a very good start too.)

You can get both the books from http://www.azharacademy.com, but Taleemul-Haq is also available online and as PDF.
