The Muslim male is supposed to pray in masjid 5x/day, is this right? How can we do this in the current age or in the West when we have to work?
Are we getting sin for praying fard salat outside of masjid?
jazakallah

Salaam back at you,
Of course not brother.
To pray jama^a in congregation is fard kifaya, which means communal obligation, which means if 2 or more people pray the salaat in congregation at the masjid then this suffices for the whole area, only when there isn't a congregational prayer held by anobody does it become sinful on muslims in the area.
Furthermore, if you do not attend the congregational prayer without a valid islamic excuse, and pray alone (without a work mate, brother/sister, mother/father or anybody) then the prayer is still valid and not sinful, as to pray is fard ^ayn, that is, personal obligation and must be done regardkess of where you are, alone or with another muslim.

this is correct esp. according to ahnaf. but you must have this strong intention that if I have a chance to perform my salah to the house of my sustainer then I will do it. We must attach ourselves in the masaajid of ALLAH and if we do that, we are always in tranquility

We should try and read in the Masjid, one of the 7 people who will be given shade on the day of Qiyamah include that man who's heart was attached to the Masjid. Look at the state of the Ummah, it should be the youth reading all their 5x Salah in the Masjid instead it is the elderly.

My bro heard this in jamat, one man was encouraged to read salah at the masjie but was not. So they asked him to daily at every namaz time go to his neighbours and tell them to go to the masjid. Few days later, he thought, if i'm telling them, why can't i do the same? And he also started coming for namaz.

It is very possible to pray five times daily salah in the Masjid in our day and age - and even in the West. Although my local Masjid is 10 mins distance via bus, I can easily pray 3 prayers in Jama'at. Maybe with some struggle I can soon make the other two, too (please, make du'a in this regard). It depends on you and how much you are concerned about, want to and ready to sacrifice for your prayers in congregation! But unfortunately the importance of praying in Jama'at (in the Masjid) is almost abscene in our hearts, so we should attentively read and listen to the virtues of praying in congregation and the admonition of not doing so. Even if it may not be a sin to miss it without valid reason (which I'm not really sure about though).

AsalaamzWW, I friend of mine (34 years old) i dont think has missed has salaat with jamaat for many years. Even when going on holiday, work, safar he has always managed to make a jamaat even with minimum of two. On occasions man he'll even help pay towards the travel costs of someone (close family/friend) to come with him in safar purely so he's got someone to do jamaat with (if his wifes not there with him)....

Mashaa'Allaahukaan, that is pretty extraordinary, may Allaah ^azzawajal bless him.

Dear Brothers, assalaamoalaikum
When one goes through all the hadiths having to do with prayers, does one have the impression that praying in the masjid was normal in the time of the Holy Messenger(SAW) or was praying in congregation an option?
Please do go through kitab al salaah in either Sahih Bukhari or Sahih Muslim, and, |Insh'Allah you'll get the answer - and this answer is independent of the madhab one follows.
Brotherly yours
