    Default DarulUlum.org, ShariahProgram.ca or eAlim.org?

    Bismillah

    As-salamu 'alaykum,

Which one of these would you consider the best choice for someone who cannot move/migrate to a city which has a "real life" Darul Uloom? In other words, which of these online Alim courses is the best one (when time, cost and contents etc. are taken into consideration)?

I had got a dosage of the shariahprogram.ca and I liked it but darululum.org seems good too from reading about them in their intro.

It's probably best to get info on these programs from the ones who are actually enrolled and and see which one is most compatible with your situation.

Yes! I was hoping there were people studying in these programs etc. who could give some feedback...

I think they all look good. I haven't taken any of them..

But my thoughts are that the Shariah Programme should be preferred at least for the start because:

    1. It's been established and refined over a long time which makes the course dense and high quality. There's also access to LOTS of independent opinions of students and till date I have yet to find a single negative comment! .

    2. The course can be taken at your own pace so you can ease yourself into it. For someone who wants to do this part-time on top their normal day-to-day stuff, it can be very tough to follow a rigid schedule and commit long hours. I'm assuming most people who begin Arabic for the first time on the SP will probably attempt the first semester multiple times too - but the classes start twice a year so it's not a problem.

    3. I'd be more inclined to trust that I'd be getting exactly what SP are claiming to give for the money I'm paying. I'm NOT saying anything bad about the others, I'm just saying I'd be more confident with SP because much more people have been through the course whereas the other two are still in the pilot years.. so whether the courses will be able to achieve their targets or not is not known...

    4. From my experience with dars e nizami, the initial years are FUNDAMENTAL. So it is really really worth considering where you will spend those first years. If you complete SP then you can easily join the third year of any of the other programmes..

    5. The final year of dars e nizami really requires the real darul uloom environment. I say this because the purpose of 'ilm and all other struggles is to become people of Nisbah. And for this I feel it is necessary to physically sit with 'Ulama. And so I would never feel comfortable doing dawrah over the internet! So this points back to SP because you're simply doing the first two years which will essentially be common to all three courses, but with the confidence of a developed well-established course.

    6. Don't know anything about the course fees - if that is a factor, you really should be the best judge of your own situation.

    as salamu alaikum,

The initial years of the darse-nizami program are essential for ones success in the subsequent years. All too often, we see people who graduate as "ulama," but have severe deficiencies in their understanding of texts due to their weakness in the fundamental sciences. An Arabic proverb that best describes this phenomenon is: "هو يبني قصوراً بغير أساس" (He builds palaces with no foundation.)

The understanding of classical texts depends on not only a solid understanding of Arabic grammar, morphology, and key vocabulary, such that one is able to read unvoweled texts fluidly, but it also depends on being able to decipher the concise and often cryptic passages that classical scholars use. Obtaining this ability not only depends on the aptitude and diligence of the student, but also depends on the competence of the teacher, both in terms of his understanding and his ability to instill that understanding within his students. Rarely does one find such a teacher. In my experience as a student of Mufti Yusuf Mullan, he is one of those rare teachers who possesses such an ability. Although the course does not encompass the entire darse-nizami curriculum, one can easily transition to the third year of any madrassah, perhaps with an advantage over other students.

I must reiterate that simply joining a good program will not result in ones success; rather, an individuals aptitude and diligence play the key role in his success as a student.

Any new thoughts or "user reviews" on the above mentioned "online Darul Ulooms"?

I have to recommend ShariahProgram as well.

I don't know much about the other courses, but SP is very good . It flows in a very logical manner, and we are already learning quite a bit without even opening our first nahw book yet!
