    Default Haraam Ingredients in Cigarettes

Some might say aagh there goes SANHA again making everything haraam Others might say why only now, cigarettes have been around for ages and Muslims all over the world smoke cigarettes even in Makka and Medina

All I can say is, May Allah make it easy for all those affected by this bad habit to stop inshallah.
This is the ultimate test of ones faith,,, all technical debates aside on whether smoking itself is Haraam, Makrooh , detested etc.....
Clear research has show Haraam ingredients in cigarettes all smokers now need to decide if there imaan can withstand consuming haraam.

The following is in a book by Mufti Zubair Dudha 'Say NO to Drugs'

    What do Cigarettes comprise of?

Cigarette comprise of many poisonous ingredients of which nicotine is not the only poisonous ingredient as many people misconceive, but included are other ingredients whose harm are more dangerous than nicotine. From amongst its poisonous ingredients are:

    1. Carbon monoxide whose poisonous effects is known.
    2. Poisonous lead, which accumulates, and the body fails to break it up.
    3. Nicotine – this is a very poisonous substance, so much so that a mere 50g of it can kill a person if injected into the arteries.
    4. Radioactive polonium which settles in the lungs of the smoker and doesn’t separate from it.
    5. Tar-this is a sticky yellowish substance which makes the teeth yellow, causes tooth decay and inflammation of the gums. This is one of the most harmful ingredients.
    6. Arsenic which is used as an insecticide, 10% of which settles on the lungs.
    7. Spirits and flavouring which is added by manufactures to keep tobacco moist.
    8. Benzene vapour which plays a great role in lung cancer.

    Cigarette smoking may cause:

Muhammed Abdul Ghaffar Al Afghani in his book “Ninety Nine harms of smoking” has said that smoking results in many sicknesses which doctors have explained and they all amount to ninety-nine.

    A few common effects are:

    • Severe dependence
    • Impaired breathing
    • Rapid pulse
    • Constriction of the blood vessels
    • A rise in blood pressure
    • An increased risk of lung cancer and other cancers
    • bronchial infections, pneumonia
    • Chronic coughing
    • Heart disease
    • Higher infant mortality
    • Low birth weight babies
    • Anxiety
    • Emphysema
    • Insomnia
    • Restlessness
    • Hand tremors
    • Fatigue

Proof for the prohibition of smoking:

As far as the proof to the prohibition of smoking is concerned after reaching this far in this book it becomes very clear that, just as taking drugs is Harãm and the proof to it already mentioned earlier in the book is sufficient to declare smoking to be Haram. Just as heroin, cocaine, etc is Haram so too is nicotine.

Therefore with the principles already mentioned, one comes to the conclusion that smoking is “HARAM”.

my father told me that one Mufti in Malaysia went to the cigarette factory and found that they include haram ingredients in the filter (which what make it different from other brands, give taste, etc). So he concluded that smoking is haram. But then the mufti got sacked (maybe not because of this, but because the government did not like him because he is really good and outspoken).

I really don´t understand why many Ulama still say that cigarettes are just makruh and not haram... before 100 years no one knew that it had health risks... but now everyone knows that smoking is unhealthy....
After seeing THIS PICTURE (comparison between a non-smoker´s lung and a smoker´s lung) I really don´t understand how anyone can claim that smoking is not haram !?

Personally this in itself does not matter to me, makruh vs. haram is an issue for the ulama. People need to realize that whether it's makruh (tahreemi) or haraam makes zero, zilch, nada, NO difference to them in terms of practice and they should abstain from it at all costs.

I know it is not easy to give up smoking but people need to realize they are only fooling themselves when they hide behind the façade of 'only makruh'.

May Allah protect us from all such evils, ameen.
