I wasnt referring specifically to the doner variety of kebab. Though the doner meat's history is from Turkey the current modern day version yes originated from Berlin.

Theres a local Br called Mustafa in Istanbul (think he's of TJ or tassuwuf background?) that many from my area use for touring as he's reliable and knows the main places to eat, see and sleep. Charges a very reasonable price also.

If its of any reassurance, I have been a couple of times before, and we've never had any hassle (thawb, long beard, niqab etc), in fact the hassle was more on our side of the airport (officials asking where we were going, which mosque we went to, and whether there was anything suspicious about the mosque! ). We however did got followed by the intelligence services very openly (they just followed us everywhere) when we were once on a trip to Tunisia, but this was back in the early 1990s.

sorry for being so blunt, but if you've been several times before, then why the question about food and it being halal? surely you know this seeing as yuo've been before,no?

care to give me some info please. Wheres the blue mosque and the topkapi palace/museum?

I know I could google it but i'd rather get the lowdown from someone who has actually been and not some blurb on the net.

do you haver to haggle with taxi's? just looking for nice break away for a week. more info yuo provide the better

Yes you are right, I have been before but I didn't stay at the aforementioned hotels, I stayed with friends in Fatih, Izmir, and Bodrum, so there wasn't an issue of halal food!
