It is a very important Sunnah. This is what I have read and heard different Ulama saying about cupping:

Jibra'eel (alayhis salam) made so much impression about Hijama that Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) thought it was going to be made Fardh on this Ummah. It is said that a person who does cupping need not continue any other form of medicine. Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) used to get cupped often for headache on the back of his mubarak head. He used to pay the person who did the cupping as well.

There are 7 points in the body that are said to be Sunnah:
    1) Back of the head
    2) and 3) Right and left shoulders (approx 2 inches from 8th disc on spinal cord)
    4) and 5) Right and left back (approx in front of the kidneys/ liver position
    6) and 7) Right and left thighs (frontal)

It is said that beloved Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) got himself cupped on the arm when he was poisoned (maybe the basilic vein, thats my assumption - its almost where you fold your arm). Cupping there will reduce the effects of poison

It is said that beloved Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) got himself cupped on the neck when black magic was done on him. It is said to reduce the effects of Sihr.

Theres a point on your head where your NOT SUPPOSED to get cupped. You know the anterior fontanelle (also called the soft spot) - the junction where the two frontal and two parietal bones meet. The anterior fontanelle remains soft until about 2 years of age. A Sahabi was cupped there and he is said to have forgotten to such an extent he could not even remember Surah Fathiha! So be careful whom you cup with.

If you do cupping on 19th (islamic calendar) which falls on a tuesday, you will not get that particular disease for a year.
17th, 19th, 21st are optimal dates. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays are avoided. A friend said theres a Hadith to the effect that you should not cup on Wed and Sat while about Tue it is said that there is a time on that day, if blood is let, it will not stop flowing.

If you are cupping tomorrow morning, then you DO NOT:

    1. Bathe after Isha (i.e Isha time: 8pm next day Ishraq is 6.15am)
    2. Have family relations with spouse
    3. Eat anything in the morning
    4. Drink anything in the morning

Of course if you faint or shiver unless you take food, you can take some biscuits and tea (minus milk). Milk is to be avoided after cupping as well as it will make the blood clot. All milk products that is. Avoided until Magrib at least.

Best time is early morning after Ishraq. I tell everyone to pray Ishraq, recite 100 Durood and Istighfar, give some sadaqa and come. If they have not done those, I make them do it before cupping. You will be amazed at what can be cured with cupping. It is the barakah of the Sunnah of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam).

Hygiene, well depends on the person doing it. I apply honey on the marks, it will heal instantly and stop bleeding. It does not bleed actually, only bad blood comes out (if done properly). I sometimes make them drink some honey too so that they are refreshed.

You can bathe 4-5 hours after the cupping. Make sure you do not run your nails over the cut marks.

If there are brothers/ sisters who perform cupping or want to learn, try to practice with the intention of reviving the Sunnah. Try not to charge. Of course you might need money for equipment, try to buy them yourself or tell the people coming to bring them for you.

Feel free to point out errors as I pass on only what I hear, myself I am a Jaahil. I will try to post some success stories here insha Allah. Well, barakah of the Sunnah of the blessed Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) has been such that ALL have been successful.

Note: if you are on heart medicine, tell your cupper. Medication such as aspirin can give you a river of blood.

My opinion is better not go to them. Experience tells me that more the person has taqwa, the better your results will be.

They say that dead blood cells are not excreted from the body as other toxins are. These cause blocks and prevent proper blood flow. Causing a lot of problems. Dead blood cells are said to come up to the surface of the skin, thats why small incisions are made on the skin.

    Salams all

Alhamdulillah some great info and experiences about cupping.

Just to let you know, we are running a blog on the subject at www.ahealth.co.uk to create a platform for therapists and patients to share their knowledge and experiences of this highly mysterious alternative therapy of hijama.

So if anyone of you can take part by contributing a guest blog post there about your experiences, please contact me.

Your help with this will be most appreciated, inshaAllah.

    JazakAllah & Salams

    As-salaamu-alaikum

I've found that cupping has had a tremendously beneficial effect on my body, just after one treatment. About 3 years ago, i sufferred some upper back injuries due to over-training with weights. I had to stop training, and seek help from an orthopedic doctor and physiotherapist. I would follow the treatment and rehab regimen, however, i would always reach a point where i would experience pain and stop for fear of another injury. Also, i couldnt touch any weights as the moment i would pick up one, the pain would instantly creep in. Unfortunately, last year, i had another complication in my left shoulder, and was diagnosed with bicepital tendonitis, where the front of my left shoulder would become inflamed with any form of activity that involved carrying anything. I visited a muslim doctor at one point, and he suggested cupping. However, this did not work out as, a few moments after he applied the suction, i lost consciousness. He told me that cupping was not for me.

A few months back, a cousin of mine told me that he was going for cupping, and that i should join him. After reading the benefits of cupping and the fact that it was a recognised sunnah, i thought that id give it another shot. Alhamdulillah, the treatment went well. The process was almost painless and is over before you know it. As for the benefit, im not exxagerating when i say that, for the first time in three years, i am able to pick up a set of dumbells with very little or no strain. The pain on my left shoulder has decreased substantially, and i plan to go for cupping often, insha'Allah. Perhaps, once a month. All i can say is subhanAllah ! I am very satisfied with the results!

The Best Days For Cupping (Hijama)

The best days for cupping (hijama) are the 17th, 19th and 21st of the Islamic, lunar month which coincide with Monday, Tuesday or Thursday.

Anas ibn Maalik y reported that the Messenger r said, "Whoever wants to perform cupping (hijama) then let him search for the 17th, 19th and 21st…" [Saheeh Sunan ibn Maajah (3486)].

Ibn Umar y reported that the Messenger r said, "Cupping (hijama) on an empty stomach* is best. In it is a cure and a blessing. It improves the intellect and the memory. So cup yourselves with the blessing of Allah on Thursday. Keep away from cupping (hijama) on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday to be safe. Perform cupping (hijama) on Monday and Tuesday for it is the day that Allah saved Ayoub from a trial. He was inflicted with the trial on Wednesday. You will not find leprosy except (by being cupped) on Wednesday or Wednesday night." [Saheeh Sunan ibn Maajah (3487)].

Ibn Umar y reported that the Messenger r said, "Cupping (hijama) on an empty stomach* is best. It increases the intellect and improves the memory. It improves the memory of the one memorising. So whoever is going to be cupped then (let it be) on a Thursday in the name of Allah. Keep away from being cupped on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Be cupped on a Monday or Tuesday. Do not be cupped on a Wednesday because it is the day that Ayoub was befallen with a trial. You will not find leprosy except (by being cupped) on Wednesday or Wednesday night." [Saheeh Sunan ibn Maajah (3488)].

    * 'alaa ar-reeq in arabic means to fast until after being treated with cupping. Once the treatment of cupping has been completed, one may eat and drink.

As for the Islamic day and night, the night enters before the day. So at sunset on Tuesday, Wednesday night comes in. Cupping (hijama) is best performed during the daytime between the adhaan of fajr and the adhaan of maghrib because yawm in arabic means daytime.

The Sunnah days for cupping (hijama) every month are when the 17th, 19th or 21st of the Islamic, lunar month coincide with a Monday, Tuesday or Thursday. These are the best and most beneficial days for cupping (hijama). If one is not able to be cupped on the 17th, 19th or 21st (coinciding with Monday, Tuesday or Thursday) then any Monday, Tuesday or Thursday of the month. The most beneficial days for cupping (hijama) after the Sunnah days are the closest Monday, Tuesday or Thursday to the 17th, 19th or 21st of the Islamic, lunar month and Allah knows best.

I did cupping before. But only the four sunnah

You take off your upper clothing (i.e. your'e topless). Then he cuts the bottom of your hair.

He gets some super thin knife, and digs it a little bit into your skin, then he puts the cup on your back, and gets some thing and the cup sticks to your skin. then you wait until it's finished. He takes off the cups, then he sprays something on , then IT BURNS LIKE CRAZY I SCREAMED. Then it's ok.
