    Default The dua of the blind man who made tawassul through the Prophet

    From a hadith, narrated by at-Tirmidhi, we know of a blind man who prayed 2 rakat nafl salah and then made a dua through the Prophet SAW. What is that dua? Can anyone write the Arabic text of it with harakat?

    I found the following on Wikipedia:

    اللهم إني أسألك وأتوسل إليك بنبيك محمد نبي الرحمة، يا محمد، يا رسول الله، إني أتوسل بك إلى ربي في حاجتى ليقضيها لي، اللهم شفعه في

    Can anyone write the harakat for me?

    It seems there are other versions of the dua.

    Salaamun 'Alaykum,

    The following hadeeth in the hadeeth books does NOT contain the word "atawassalu", instead it says "atawajjahu".

    Here is a picture of the hadeeth with the harakas from my personal copy of Sunan Al-Tirmidhee. (Sorry for the bad quality)

    Sources: (To this hadeeth)
    1. Al-Tirmidhee, Sunan, hadeeth # 3578
    2. Ibn Maajah, Sunan, hadeeth # 1385
    3. Ibn Hanbal, Musnad, vol. 4, pg. 138
    4. Tabaraanee, Mu'jam Al-Kabeer, vol. 3, pg. 2, hadeeth # 2
    5. Haakim, Mustadarak 'ala Saheehayn, vol. 1, pg. 313

    Grading: (of the hadeeth)
    1. Aboo IsHaaq has said this hadeeth is SaHeeH
      --> Ibn Maajah, Sunan, hadeeth # 1385
    2. Tirmidhee has said this hadeeth is Hasan SaHeeH Ghareeb
      --> Tirmidhee, Sunan, hadeeth # 3578
    3. Al-Haakim & Al-Dhahabee has said this hadeeth has a SaHeeH Isnaad
      --> Al-Haakim, Mustadarak 'alaa SaHeeHayn, vol. 1, pg. 519

    This hadeeth has also been graded as SaHeeH (Authentic) by Al-Albaani.

    3. Al-Albaani, Al-Ta'alleeq 'ala SaHeeH Ibn Khuzaymah, hadeeth # 1219

    But this hadeeth cannot be daleel (proof) for us to do this type of "tawassul-like" du'aa all the time, at any given moment.

    I also see the hadith you gave does not also contain "Ya Muhammad, Ya Rasulallah..." Maybe it's a Salafi version of the hadith /they have removed the words they do not like, subhanallah/

    They have not removed it, this is from the original Sunan Al-Tirmidhee. Go to any publication of Sunan Al-Tirmidhee, you'll see this version that I have given.

    Here is the hadeeth in Ibn Maajah from a"Salafee" publication:
    اللهم إني أسألك وأتوجه إليك بمحمد نبي الرحمة يا محمد إني قد توجهت بك إلى ربي في حاجتي هذه لتقضى اللهم شفعه في
    Source:
    • Al-Albaani, SaHeeH wa Da'eef Ibn Maajah, hadeeth # 1385

    And here is another "Salafee" publication of Ibn Maajah.
    اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ وَأَتَوَجَّهُ إِلَيْكَ بِمُحَمَّدٍ نَبِيِّ الرَّحْمَةِ يَا مُحَمَّدُ إِنِّي قَدْ تَوَجَّهْتُ بِكَ إِلَى رَبِّي فِي حَاجَتِي هَذِهِ لِتُقْضَى اللَّهُمَّ فَشَفِّعْهُ فِيَّ ‏
    Source:
    hadeeth # 1448 : http://www.al-eman.com/hadeeth/viewc...D=4&CID=21#s33

    And here is from my personal Ibn Maajah, from a publication by Kitaab Bhavan. A non-salafee publication.

    So they haven't done any "taHreef" (distortion) to the original text. It is just that, the way Ibn Maajah and Tirmidhee have recorded the hadeeth is a little different. This happens all the time between Muhaddithoon (Hadeeth Scholars).

    Keeping the word "Yaa Muhammad, etc..." in the publication isn't a big deal and it doesn't make sense for them to remove it. The major thing about this hadeeth is the word "atwajjahu" (means). If any word they would've done taHreef to, it would've been that one.

    This specific version with "Yaa Muhammad, Yaa Rasoolillaah..." has been recorded by Ibn Taymiyyah in his Minhaaj Al-Sunnah, vol. 1.

    I wouldn't just start throwing around the word "taHreef", unless you've fully investigated the matter.

    I am sorry if I came off kind of hard, please excuse me for that. Just the word "taHreef" is a big word to be using.

    CORRECTION: The book that the narration with "Yaa Muhammad, Yaa Rasoolillaah..." is NOT recorded in Minhaaj Al-Sunnah by Ibn Taymiyyah, instead it is recording in Majmoo' Al-Fataawa, vol. 1, by Ibn Taymiyyah.

    I kind of got mixed up between the two when I was reading it at my house.
