Default Advice needed for a young muslim boy at college

i am 17 year old student at mixed college
my Biggest problem there is the fitnah of women.

Though i dont really go up to girls and speak to them, whenever i have interaction especially
in class i tend to flirt and be over-friendly. i natrually smile at most people and i have quite a soft charecter so i dont know how to be a bit more like umar(ra) and just cut off all contact.

How do i stop myself from flirting.
I feel it has an effect on my iman(i use to wear a juba on fridays but for the past 6 months have not been wearing it). sometimes i fall into other bad habits that are seemingly unrelated.
And another problem is when i develop feelings for a particular person, i find it hard to get her out of my head. I try so hard i concoiusly try to stop these emotions but for some reason they just wont go.
it is fustrating to say the least. this is worse considering i am not ignorant of islam and i truely believe in its divinity, as the quran was opened up to me through the mercy of allah just under a year ago.

Do you have a beard? From my experience, in addition to being an Islamic obligation, keeping a long beard (fist-length plus) protects you from sin in many ways. First of all, girls tend to keep away from you. People will not invite you to parties and other such means of fasad. Lastly, by keeping a beard, you know that people will judge Islam through whatever you do publically, so you will try to avoid doing anything that will reflect badly on your religion.

I have made an intention to grow my beard, it is still very short inshallah it will grow further, though not intentionally done
it does look more like its for fashion. (some one even complimented me on it :s she seemed to like it). I have an islamic mindset and talk about
islam and allah a lot, so people know that i wont go to parties drink alcohol smoke etc.
I think allah has given me the tawfiq to leave a lot of sinful deeds because i dont want people to think bad of islam, eversince i believed i genuinly do
not want to people to see a negative image as i no longer see islam like a supporting a football team now i just see it as the true path(alhamdulilah)
But i have recently realised that my clothing is not actualy modest, though my conduct is not immodest on the whole, my problem is not that i am attracted to strange women
but it is that i am over friendly with people in my classes then that sometimes produces feelings for that particular person.
being friendly is my biggest problem such that even when i dont have bad intentions initally feelings can develop.
i Think that fact allah has given me an islamic mindset, makes me more fustrated at this problem. i envy those who do not have this problem

    jazakallah for the advice
