Default Tips on Memorising Holy Quran for a Hafiz who has forgotten it.

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I have a friend who is 16 years old and he is a Hafiz (he has memorised the full Holy Qura'n) but unfortunately due to his laziness, bad environment and teenage temptations (bad habits); he has forgotten the qura'n and when you test him, he can barely remember any verse let alone recall the name of the surah or the chapter. He has left the madrassah now so the only way he can memorise (revise) the quran again is at home and he has a father who is very strong Hafiz. He has got 6 weeks summer holidays (3 weeks would be in Ramadhan) and wants to make most of it. So SF members what advise would give to my friend and it would be grateful if you could plan out a daily timetable for him.

p.s. he will not be leading taraweeh.

    JazakAllah Khayr.

    Wa'Alaykumus Salaam Warahmatullahi Wabarakaatuh,

It really depends on the person.

One method is to pray one Ruku looking inside 7 times, then pray by heart, if he knows it by this time alhmadulillah, he should repeat twice more by heart then proceed to the next ruku, if it is not known then pray inside 3 more times, or five more times then pray by heart, when one ruku is learnt proceed to the next in the same. When the full quarter is completed, pray the full quarter looking inside once then pray to an ustaadh/father/other haafiz. Then proceed to the next quarter in the same way. When the full juzz is completed (after praying quarters) he should go over the juzz once and pray the full juzz by heart. He should do one juzz in the day, next day he should repeat the previous days juzz and then proceed to the next one in the above way. If this is done during the week (mon-fri) the weekend can be used to repeat the five juzz done over the week. This is just one way, but people learn in their own ways.
