Default UAE issues religious edict against vuvuzelas

An Islamic edict in the United Arab Emirates has decreed that vuvuzela trumpets that blare above 100 decibels are religiously forbidden.

"If they are loud enough to damage hearing, vuvuzelas are haram," or forbidden. Importers and traders... must ensure that its power is not over 100 decibels so as to avoid damaging people?s hearing."

It said that the horns can be used only in stadiums if they pose no harm.

The tuneless, deafening plastic vuvuzelas have become the defining sound of South Africa's World Cup, leaving television networks hunting for ways to filter out the constant blare.

What a shame. They are focusing on irrelevant things such as these while conveniently ignoring all the other types of fawahish in their country.

The Ismaili Centre, Dubai is a complex of creative spaces for contemplative, cultural, educational and recreational purposes, designed to encourage understanding and the sharing of wisdom from many perspectives. Built on land that was donated by the Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the Centre was opened on 26 March 2008 as part of the commemoration of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s Golden Jubilee.

Regional and cosmopolitan in its conception, the Ismaili Centre, Dubai draws on spiritual and intellectual roots that give it contemporary resonance. Its courtyards, gardens and watercourses, set amidst interlinking interiors, propose a harmony of tradition and timelessness.

Since when did hearing loss not become a problem?

I think their decision may have something to do with their desire to host the world cup in 2020...or is that Qatar...I forgot.

Vuvuzelas are annoying. They should be banned for irritating people and not letting them sleep in peace.

Very typical of imperialist western media to focus on absolutely secondary issues and facts happening in the "Muslim world", to keep giving of its people an exotic, lunatic image.

And people even rely on them to keep "informed" about world's "facts". What a shame.

I totally agree, there are much discotheques in the emirate and many other things that should not be allowed. They schould concentrate on these issues.
