Classical Logic (Mantiq) texts?

As salaamu alaykum.

What are the names of some of the classics in the study of mantiq in traditional Islamic circles?

I would like to get a list of these texts going here along with some information about when they were authored, by whom, etc. and whether or not they are still in use today.

If some of my more knowledgeable brothers and sisters could contribute to this thread, especially our respected resident Ulema, I would appreciate it insha'allah.

One of the good work on this subject is by Hafiz Jalal al-Din Suyuti who died in 911 AH and the name of the book is Sawn al-mantiq wa al-kalam `an fann al-mantiq wa al-kalam "Manual of logic and dialectic theology"

Maybe you should tell him that the book you mentioned is against Mantiq.

The standrd books of Mantiq (depending on the location where they are taught) include:
1. al-Akhdari's Sullam with its commentaries
2. Isaghuji with a good commentary, such as Mughni al-tullab
3. Shamsiya

The Dars e Nizami usually instructs in the following:

Mirqat

Sharh Tahzib

Qutbi

Sullam ul Uloom

I think there's one or two others besides the above and some more that are not taught anymore like Sadra and Shams Baazigha (I think). Allah knows best.

Sullam ul Uloom is by Muhibbillah Bihari (1119 Hijri). Sullam al-Munawraq is a poem by al-Akhdari, if i'm not mistaken it's based on Isagoji, and is very famous in the arab lands. One of the famous commentaries on Sullam is by Damanhuri a Azhari shaykh, it's entitled "Idah ul Mubham Sharh Ma'ani as-Sullam". (can be found online).

Al Qistasul Mustaqim

Currently we are studying these 2 text at Shariah Program and they are amazing!!!
On weekends we are studying Mirqaat which itself is very useful.

Mantiq is a challenging subject and requires a competent teacher to explain the ibarat.

mospike you are actually one of the few users who seemed to have progressed ilm-wise throughout the years in this forum. I mean your posts seem to indicate that. The other person is goldiali saheb who is from Chicago but studying in Egypt I think? Anyway keep up the good work. When I see laypeople like yourself studying I get really happy. Most muslims don't have the dedication to do things long term. They don't have steadfastness. An arabic class will start with 60 people. After a few weeks 10 will stay. After 1 year maybe 2 people will stay. That is one thing about muslims. We need to be dedicated. We always delay. ALLAH give me the taufiq as I am the biggest culprit. Life is going so fast...yet what have we achieved...
