Default Why don't people care as much about the Pakistan floods compared with Haiti?

Does anyone else get the impression that people don't see to have the passion for or care as much about the Pakistani floods, as they did with the Haiti earthquake? Granted, there were more deaths, but the reaction from the public and organisations seems to be pretty mediocre.

Very true unfortunately and sad. Whole villages have been washed under and displaced. May Allah have mercy upon them. My very close friend was frantic trying to find out how her brother and sister were. they are fine, however their village is flooded as well so they cannot stay there.

The ironic and sad part though is that such events have still not stopped the wicked deeds of big shots in Pakistan. Allah knows what it will take to shake people up.

In the west, the general public generaly only sees what America puts on TV, the news is WORTHLESS here. I think its a little beter in Europe or UK but in America, they can't even get the weather right most of the time. I honestly have not even seen the report about the Pakistani flood on the front page of news. People pooled together to bring aid to Haiti because it was on every channel, website, newspaper, and there is a huge Haitian diaspora in the west which also provided more awareness.

No doubt both incidents are huge disasters. May Allah give relief to all those affected. Though the Pakistan floods is still breaking news and no doubt sadly the death toll there will rise from its current approx 1,500, remember that the Haiti disaster’s death toll was approx 250,000. However the floods have probably effected as many people as the Haiti earthquake if not more. Pakistan’s a hated country in the West hence doubt very much it’ll attract much interest or sympathy.

Many people (and news agencies, orgs etc) when donating money only look at the death toll which then persuades them to donate – so if the reported deaths are low though even millions are effected it probs wont get that much press.

The Haiti earthquake seemed to get more "public awareness" than most natural disasters that I have seen. I'm not sure why that is. Maybe there was more sympathy since it was such a poor nation.

But honestly I don't think it is fair to compare apples with oranges.... or to make comparisons at all. Especially when the event in Pakistan is still in the process of being ongoing. What I mean is that it isn't over yet. At this point, the general public may feel unaware of how to help. Also, it is still early on in the event. From my understanding, the US military has helped with evacuations, transporting supplies, and providing food. I realize that this is not the "general public" who is providing this help. There are a number of agencies who are gathering aid to be able to respond. You can see a list here. I'm sure that list is probably by no means comprehensive.

The entire thing is tragic. Making comparisons and complaining is not the answer. Instead, help to promote public awareness and be thankful for all the support that is being given.

Which is ironic since the living are more in need of aid than the dead.

It isn't on the same scale and plus it was highly unusual that people INCLUDING Muslims actually cared about suffering Black people.Anyways the international community did come together and offer help and support for the Pakistani earthquake victims so I really don't understand why you're complaining?

Of course not. I've got family right there.

But at the moment the floods are probably what's on my mind.
