Default Books and work in Urdu and Arabic not translated into english yet

    Assalamoualaikum,

The purpose of this thread is to list all major islamic books and works written in either urdu or arabic which has not been translated into english yet (alongside the author of each). I am sure there are plenty of you on SF who, unfortunately, are not able to either read or understand both languages correctly (like me), and rely solely on english versions. It will also be an opportunity to provide links (those who know) to download any books mentioned in the thread which some brothers and sisters think have not been translated yet. This will Insha Allah help each and everyone to make maximum benefit.

So I shall start with the ones I am eagerly anticipating translation in the english language:

    1. Ila As-Sunan by Shaykh Zafar Usmani [R.A]
    2. Al Muhannad Alal Mufannad by Shaykh Khalil Ahmad Saharanpuri [R.A]
    3. Mutala e Barelwiya by Shaykh Khalid Mahmoud [D.B]
“O our Rabb! Forgive us and our brothers who passed before us with Imaan. And do not place any impurity (ill-feelings) in our hearts against those who have Imaan. O our Rabb! Indeed You are the Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.”

Considering it's length, I highly doubt anyone is working on a translation for this work.

The problem with translation is that a person needs to be proficient in both languages 110% and not just in the languages but grammer and syntax rules etc.....For this reason it is very difficult to find good translators. What actually needs to be translated are some biographies of the elders....that would be a good start. Also there is no point in doing a half botched attempt...many deobandi translations are so poor and full of mistakes...It would be great if some ulema from the UK/South Africa/America got together and set up something like this.....

    Maulana,

You don't need money to translate, you need the will and dedication. Our Akabir wrote many books and some of them never got published and people used to come and take their works and some people even printed it under their names.

You need money to publish (not to translate) but in the current age of Internet, you just need to convert a book into PDF or make a blog out of it.

    The two important components are:

    1) Dedication and hard work by Ulama or laymen who sit down and translate
    2) Help from someone to put it on the Internet

If the book is good somebody will come along and publish it otherwise it will be accessible to millions (FOR FREE) on the Internet.

There are Ulama around the world today who don't care about copy-rights and don't make their money by selling Islamic works.

Most deobandi books and translation are so botched that they are not worth reading. A leading Deobandi book was translated by a Maulana in US who charged over $500 while another brother in UK was going to do it for free, the publishers went with the Maulana and its SHOCKING with no pattern and cohesion so even paying won’t get you good results sometimes.

Zamzam publishers proudly told me that they paid Maulana over $500 (because I suppose for them in Pakistan it’s a lot of money) and I told them that translation is a SHOCKER and they should have gone with the brother in UK.

This Maulana took the immense research of Mufti Taqi Usmani (HA) and CRUCIFIED it with his translation.

The UK brother in question is now a Maulana but back then he was thinking about studying, he was a student in one of the top Schools and knew what he was doing.

Agreed, although Shaykh Faraz Rabbani has translated the final chapter under the name 'Sufism and Good Character' published by White Thread Press. A tiny excerpt of the work but an excellent translation.

A co-ordinated and organized effort to translate this work would be amazing. It is definitely number 1 on my list of books I would like translated.

Lets be factual as well bhai Muadh. We are talking of Ulama (mostly from 3rd World countries) who normally earn at most 60% of their monthly required expenses. It is much sacrifice that they manage their expenses in that restricted quota. And this is after working like donkeys (pardon the comparison but you understand the urdu phrase) throughout the day.

e.g My first Quran teacher (Pakistan) used to work as a civil servant 9-5, and aside from that in his break he would go and teach 5-10 homes, and after he would get off from work, he taught another 10-15 houses. He would barely make his expenses for himself and his family. If such a person wishes to do some publication work, what incentive can we offer. This is the story of most of our ulama who at most end up doing part time imamat or teach small maktabs as their livelihood.

Alhamdulillah Allah raise the status of those few who still go further to cut off their left over family time to sit at the desks to translate or do some form of publications. There is a reason why scholars in western system, normally universities have good publications under their belts. Their daily required worries are mostly if not all the time taken care of.

What other motivation, aside from the work for Allah's sake, is there for those who wish to translate/write? Dont get me wrong. I understand that you work carzy in doing deeni work as well, and probably all for lillah, sacrificing yours and your families time etc. Allah will inshAllah reward you and many others for that. But not all are as brave hearted as you are. A tough pill, but necessary to swallow. Please shed some wisdom inshAllah.
