Default Maghrib time - still light

    Salaam,

Hoping someone can answer my question.

I'm sure everyone else has noticed that at Maghrib time when we open our fast it is still light outside.
Is this correct as our fasts are essentially during the hours of sunlight? i've never understood why we open our fast whilst it is light outside.

I was having a discussion with a fellow brother who has many Shia friends and he told me that they open their fast about 15 minutes after once it is darkness.

Why do we open our fast when there is still light outside?

I do not know about Hanafis, but I believe they have a similar view on this regarding Maghrib:

Our school calculate the time of Maghrib from sunsent--i.e. when the Sun disk disappears from view in a plain land for someone standing at ground level ---or something similar to this.

So light has nothing to do with this. Wallahu Ta'ala A'lam
