Default Performing Maghrib Salah silently in jamah

Assalamualaikum.....Yesterday my friend led maghrib prayers in a house and did not recite out loud in any of the rakahs...the people prayed behind him did not know about the ruling so they did not interrupt him....he only realised it once he reached his own home...what does he need to do now...is the salah valid?

    Wa 'alaykumus Salam

Reciting out loud in Jama'ah by the Imam is Wajib, not Fard. (Nurul Idah) The definition of minimum Jahr (reciting out loud) is that at least one person in the Jam'ah can hear the Imam, while the maximum jahr is considered two people can hear the Imam, though it's better that everyone in the congregation should hear the Imam. (Hashiya of Mawlana 'Izaz 'Ali).

Leaving a Necessary (Wajib) in Prayer, Forgetfulness Prostrations
So, if I made this mistake as an imaam, is sajdah sahuw necessary? If I did not perform sajdah sahuw during the two instances this has occurred, then shall I make up the prayer and tell my dad (who prayed with me) to make it up as well?

    Walaikum assalam,

    1. It is necessary (wajib) for the imam to recite quietly in the silent prayers [i.e. Zuhr and Asr]. If he recites out loud, this will entail leaving a necessary (wajib) act. [Ala al-Din Abidin, Gifts of Guidance]

    2. If a necessary (wajib) act is forgetfully omitted, it is necessary to perform 2 forgetfulness prostrations at the end of the prayer. [SEE: (http://www.sunnipath.com) for details]

    3. If a necessary act is intentionally omitted, one must repeat one’s prayer within the time. [For details, see article below.]

    4. If a necessary act is forgetfully omitted but one failed to perform the forgetfulness prostrations, one must repeat the prayer within the time. [Gifts]

    5. After the time, it would be best to tell your father to repeat the prayer if he is practicing and committed; otherwise, you shouldn’t.

    Wassalam,
    Faraz Rabbani

JazakAllah.....so in my friend's case he needs to repeat the prayer (two days have gone by) and tell the muqtadis to do the same if they are practicing?

From what Shaykh Faraz has written i would say yes. Mufti Sahib or Sidi AbuHajira can give a definite answer.
