لا تنظر إلى صغر الذنب لكن انظر إلى عظمة من عصيت
Look not at the insignificance of the sin, rather look at the significance of Whom you sinned against.

My local moulana spoke about this issue in last weeks bayan and he sed that some ulamas have sed that prawns can be eaten because they have a spine therefore they are placed in the category of the "fish" therefore because fish can be eaten, prawns can be eaten too.
also he said he will find about the maslah regarding lobsters/crabs, which i'l post as soon as he says.

Salaam,
According to the Hanafi school, to eat prawns. etc., is Makrooh Tahreeman.
To mention more:
I once asked a well grounded Hanafi scholar, Muhammad Yusaf al-Kanadi (Hafizahullaah), who currently resides in Makkah al-Mukarramah, a question on this issue, and he answered - to which i have permission to post here:
"In the early works of Fatwaa the Hanafi scholars discussed almost everything, mentioning and permitting eels and skates and sharks while prohibiting turtles and frogs. They were better informed about what the Arabs considered to be fish so if they would have included prawns in that class they certainly would have mentioned it. In fact it's an insult to the Arabs to allege that they were so ignorant as to classify a totally dissimilar creature like shrimp among fish.
According to the opinion of Abu Haneefah in Zaahir al-Riwaayah we may not eat anything of the catch of the sea except fish that have been killed not fish that have died a natural death or that are are found with their bellies up floating on the sea; if they are found floating with their bellies down then we can eat them.
Now according to zoologists the Animal Kingdom is divided into two main classes: Vertebrates and Invertebrates, that is those that have backbones and those that do not. Now shrimp crabs squids octopuses snails and things like that are Invertebrates so they are about as far removed from a fish as you can get. Nowhere in our books can you even find shrimp mentioned let alone permission to eat them even in an incorrect or weak Fatwa. Therefore, those that claim that this is the sound Fatwa are committing some egregious errors for either they presume that the Ulama of the modern era have the prerogative to give a Fatwa opposed to the Madhhab and to then declare it to be sound opinion, or they presume that the opinion that shrimp are lawful has been given in the Madhhab and that those scholars that were truly qualified to judge which opinions were the sound ones in cases where there are a number of opinions in the Madhhab judged that this opinion was the sound one. The first situation is delusion and complete disregard or ignorance of the protocols of Fatwa (Rasm al-Mufti) and the second is utter ignorance of what is written down in the canons of the Madhhab. For your information, my teacher Mufti Azeez al-Rahman formerly of Jamiah Ashrafiyyah in Lahore, informed us that during the time of Mufti Muhammad Shafee' at Dar al-Uloom Benori Town in Karachi, there was a Bengali teacher who started to give a Fatwa that eating shrimp was lawful according to the Madhhab. Mufti Muhammad Shafee' dismissed him, he said."
Wassalaam.
