I find forums to be addictive, misleading (at times) and an invitation for debates. People will get into debates of the issue of different sects, of differences in aqeeda and any topic they can find. For a new Muslim that can be confusing and overwhelming.
Personally I would rather give the brother some reading, audio and video material, have one or two brothers talk to him online and find someone he could spend time with in york to give him the Islamic environment he needs.

I will ask him to get in touch with the isoc of York uni, there should be brothers there who can help him. Meanwhile if some brother can volunteer to talk to this revert, that would be great as I would prefer a brother talking to him than me explaining Islam to him. Jazakumullahu khayran.
