Question Getting VERY confused/ East London Mosque

I'm new to the forum and signed up especially so that I hope some of my questions may be answered, I've had a look through many of the old posts and some things have been made clear, I apologise if some of the questions may be in other posts or not make sense.

    1.

I have recently started praying at the east London Mosque, where during Ramadan in Taraweeh/witr they raise they're hands in the 3rd rakat and make dua - is this ok? As other Mosques I go to and all my life I have always read takbir and folded my hands again.

    2.

Also in east London Mosque - after any prayer why do they not read dua together? All the mosques I have been to always do? Why do they never read stuff like Durood Shareef together etc? Is it wrong?

    3.

In certain posts in this forum, there is the opinions of praying behind Salafi etc, and whether it is right or wrong - In the e.London Mosque they do things it seems differently with different Imams - is this right?

I've been reading a lot of about different schools of thoughts etc and it just seems to be getting me confused, from what I've been taught as a child to what happens in bigger mosques in comparisons to smaller mosques.

    Please help!

    Thank you

Default Re: Getting VERY confused/ East London Mosque

    Assalamu 'alaikum.

    1. This dua is called Qunut, it quite correct to do this as it is established in Islam, but it is optional, so there is also no problem if it is not done.

    2. Although some mosques read dua together after Salah, it is not a requirement to do so, and some believe it is not correct. However, in all schools of thought it is desirable for a person to make their own dua and dhikr regardless of whether others are doing so or not.

    3. The East London Mosque is a 'Sunni' mosque, there is no problem for you to pray there. In Salah most of their practices appear to be Hanafi, as are their Imams, although they do have guest Imams, e.g. last Friday the khutbah and prayer for Jumuah were by a Somali brother.

May Allah help us all along the correct path and unite our hearts in truth.
