What is the rank of Hafidh Ibn Hajr Asqalani (RA)'s Bulughul-Mar'aam in the Shaf'ae Madhab? Is it a relied upon text in the Madhab?
I usually notice that people who follow the Shaf'ae Madhab quote and rely on al-Majmu'?

Salam aleikum
Bulugh al-maram is more like a hadith compilation containing many of the ahadith that where used by different scholars (not only shafi'i scholars) as evidence in different questions. It is not a fiqh book nor is it a book used to show the dalil for any specifi opinion or madhab. As such it doesnt have a rank and its not a relied upon book of our madhab.

As Salamu alaikum,
The work is studied in almost every traditional Shafi'i school in Java, Indonesia. It has a few commentaries, one is by Sayyid Muhammad al-Maliki and is beneficial.
Assalamualeykum wr wb
Bulugh ul maraam is a great book if one wants to get a glimpse of some of the different proofs that the madhahib used to support their views. Personally i enjoy studying this book.
Imam Faisal Ahmad of Texas has been going through it and is currently covering Chapter of Tahara and Nikah.
his lectures can be found at imamfaisal.com
I thought it actually was a small proof book for the Shafi`i school that he compiled for the purpose of memorization by students of the Shafi`i madhhab?
"Among the qualities of humanness, get rid of every quality
incompatible with your slavehood so you can answer
when Allah calls and be near His presence."
From al-Hikam al-'Ata'iyya of Ibn 'Ata Allah
Since the brother mentioned that this is studied in Java by Shaafi students then it may be that many of the ahadith in the book support the shaafi opinions but there are still ahadith in this book which other madhahib used to support their views, for example the hadith is included in baabut Tahara "Narrated Abu Umama al Bahili, Allah's Messenger said, “Water cannot be rendered impure by anything except that which changes its taste, smell, or color.” (ibn Majah)
This hadith is a proof for the Maliki Madhab in that they do not differentiate between a large or small amount of water and only consider water to be impure if any of its 3 states have changed.
wasalaam

As-salamu 'alaykum,
Sidi, this reflects the whole Hadith vs Fiqh dilemma. Al-Hafidh is more Hadith based, while Nawawi is more Fiqh based. So he may disagree with Nawawi based on his findings.
