Default Writing in Arabic in word 2007

    Assalaamualaikum wa rahmatullah

I am struggling with Arabic typing for quite some time now. I have visited the Arabic forum and seen every page, unfortunately havent found help there . I request any good advice for this. I have all the fonts I could need, but cant figure how to add the fatha, kasra, etc. I dont really want to use the online keyboards where I copy/ paste as I have serious need to learn this on a permanent basis.

    jazakallahu khair

    wassalaam

It is very easy. First of all, ensure that you have Arabic keyboard added on your panel. (It is not a physical keyboard, it is something that you can add/remove from Language options of Windows). To switch between languages use Alt+Shift together.

For fatha press and hold Shift then hit q.
For fatha tanween press and hold Shift then hit w.
For damma press and hold Shift then hit e.
For kasra press and hold Shift then hit a.
For kasra tanween press and hold Shift then hit s.
    and so on,

here is the list of all variations:
    www.qalifba.com/key.svg
    www.qalifba.com/key.pdf

look at the table; those marks & letters that are above on the buttons, they are meant to be written by Shift + that button.
After practicing extensively you will learn all the letters on your keyboard and you won't need any table or a special keyboard.

    Hope that helps.

the arabic font is called "arabic typesetting", but the font is different from the arabic language pack which makes it possible to type arabic words in an english addition of windows.

If you are on Windows platform, the language pack has to be installed from a Windows installation disk or downloaded from Microsoft's website.

Bohot jazakallahu khair for all the suggestions. I do have the arabic language pack from windows and understand the toggling b/w languages and have kinda figured out the alphabet bit by creating a small ready reference table for myself. Ur suggestions on the vowel bit helped, alhamdulillah. But unfortunately I am unable to get kasra or kasra teanween and am not sure why. Any ideas? Infact Shift and s do not produce anything.

    Jazakallah once again.

    wassalaam

    asa,

you have several options. you can:

    1. purchase a physical arabic keyboard
    2. purchase arabic sticker key covers, which are very cheap on ebay
    3. study a key mapping diagram for english to arabic keyboard

to setup a windows system for arabic you have to:

    1. install arabic language pack, which can be done from windows install disk or downloaded from microsoft website
    2. add the arabic keyboard ("keyboard" in this sense is the key interpreter installed as part of the arabic language pack)

the default way to invoke arabic is to hold LEFT ALT and SHIFT. Pressing that key combination will toggle between arabic and english.

    hope this helps.
