Default Coalition of African American Muslims? Zaid Shakir Siraj Wahhaj and......Farrakhan?

    Salamu Alaikum,
What the ***** is going on with our community inviting people like Louis Farrakhan (he had the longest speech of all) to speak at a African American Muslims event?

(others present were Zaid Shakir,Siraj Wahhaj,Abdul Malik etc)

    wa alaikukm salaam wa rahmatullah,

This news is a test from Allah. It certainly upset me to see pictures of some of my favorite Imams at a press conference with Farakhan. My limited understanding is that not all of the Imams there are a part of this new organization. Some of them see their contact with Farakhan as dawah to a group of non Muslims. For me, Farakhan is the instigator behind the assassination of Malcolm X and a heretic. What I was told 13 years ago and even when I ask now, is that many of the NOI are moving towards true Islam. That's not what I see when I talk to them or you look at the NOI website or you listen to Farakhan. Even at the CAAM press conference, he was trying to explain that Islam began with Prophet Muhammad's hijra. That is when the Islamic calendar began, but most five-year-old Muslim children know Islam goes all the way back to Adam. So I am sure he is embarrassing for knowledgeable people to be close to him and hear him say fundamentally wrong things and still maintain their adab. We have to be calm and analyze what develops, because that press conference was a month ago and not a thing has come up about this new "coalition" since then. We should wait to see how serious it is before we get upset. There are a whole bunch of people that get upset at the sight of anyone taking Farakhan seriously and I am one of them. I will never forget the years he spent using the Final Call to put down Malcolm and portray him as a nobody, while trying to prop himself up as some sort of great black leader. Some things you know from the heart and I know that Malcolm is an American icon and symbol of true Islam and Farakhan will almost certainly never be anywhere near those things, unless he changes, by Allah's Mercy. So we should not worry. No one stands next to a black bigot with a big mouth for long. The embarrassment is too intense!

Coalition of African American Muslims what i find a mockery is that Louis Farrakhan had the longest speech of all and he is known to be a heretical non muslim ''Minister'' if you navigate through youtube you will see him making claims such as ''he claims to be God'' he keeps on praising Elijah Poole and his message. What i find ridiculous is that they are present there and dont speak a word on the NOI movement or its leader Farrakhan (a lot of Farrakhans groupies were present in the public as well)

Imam Zaid Shakir was visually upset with Farrakhan tho.

While I share SOME of your issues with Farrakhan as it relates to his connections with Malcolm X's assassination, I am quite shocked (actually I'm not b/c your animosity towards him is too stereotypical) so let me say I am rather appauled at your condemnation of Farrakhan as a muslim. I agree with you, as you have pointed out that there are videos on youtube where there is a discussion of the use of the term god (the black man is god). Such statements are commonplace in some circles. But there are videos on youtube where Farrakhan is EXPLAINING the use of the english term god, its different meaning from the Arabic word for THE MOST HIGH, THE LORD OF ALL THE WORLDS. There are videos on youtube where Farrakhan is praying the muslim prayer in arabic, (the sunni way). I am sure you will condemn me for my statements as well. But are we not supposed to find ways to unite the ummah? Is there not a specific teaching amidst nearly all accepted/traditional/orthodox Islamic schools that Allah is a linguistic term that honestly CAN NOT be translated into the english word god and justifiably be equivalent? Is that not the reason why most english translations of The Quran continue to use Allah instead of the word "god" or "God" or "GOD" or "G-d" or any other english construction to represent THE LORD OF ALL THE WORLDS?
