Default True Ashaar (poetry) from the pious elders...

    Assalaamu'alaikum wr wb,

Can we share the beautiful ashaar/poems of our pious elders? it would be great if the writer (if possible a very brief profile) is added...and translation would help brothers from other languages comprehend (apologies for not being able to do that below).

Hazat Khaja Azeezul Hasan Majzub (RA) - Khalifa of Hazat Thanwi (RA).

Ab to rehe bas taa dame aakhir wirde zabaań a mere ilah
La Illaha Illallah, La Illaha Illallah

Tere siwa ma'bude haqeeqi koi nahień he koi nahień
Tere siwa makhsude haqeeqi koi nahień he koi nahień
Tere siwa maujhude haqeeqi koi nahień he koi nahień
Tere siwa mash'hude haqeeqi koi nahień he koi nahień
Ab to rehe bas taa dame aakhir wirde zabaań a mere ilah

Ab to rehe bas taa dame aakhir wirde zabaań a mere ilah
La Illaha Illallah, La Illaha Illallah

Nafs O shaytaań donoń ne milkar haay kiaa he mujh ko tabah
A mere mola meri madad kar chahta huń me teri panaah
Mujh sa khlaq me koi nahień go bad kirdaro namah siyah
Tu bhi magar ghaffar he yaa Rab bakhsh de mere saare gunah
Ab to rehe bas taa dame aakhir wirde zabaań a mere ilah
La Illaha Illallah, La Illaha Illallah

Mujh ko saraapa zikr banade zikr tera a mere khuda
Nikle mere har bune mu see zikr tera a mere khuda
Ab to kabhi chore bhi nah chute zikr tera a mere khuda
Halq se nilke sańs he badle zikr tera a mere khuda.
Ab to rehe bas taa dame aakhir wirde zabaań a mere ilah
La Illaha Illallah, La Illaha Illallah

I like this one I heard in Hazat Maulana Hakeem Akhtar sab db's bayaan:

    Dushmanon ko aish-e-aab-o-gul diya,
    doston ko apna dard-e-dil diya,
unko saahil par bhi tughyaani mili,
humko toofaanon mein bhi saahil diya!!

    Near translation:
The enemies were given pleasures of the world,
And friends were given His pain in the heart,
They faced a tsunami even at the shores,
And we were blessed with a shore in the midst of a storm!!!

Ok, OK....please dont forget that it was a beautiful poem looking at my translation attempts....capturing it in english doesnt seem possible!

Someday I will post the whole poem inshAllah, my favorite, from Hazat Khaja Azeezulhasan Majzub Ra...

    ...
Ye kiske liye jaan dene chala hoon,
Chali aa rahi hai qaza hoor hokar!,
Ajab ek mu'amma sa main bangaya hoon,
na mukhtaar hokar, na majboor hokar!!!...

    Translation attempt:
For whom am I walking to lay down my life for?
That death itself approaches like a hoor of paradise,
A strange puzzle that I have become,
Neither deliberately, nor out of desperation...

Again from Hazat Khaja Azeezulhasan Majzub Ra...

Tamanna hai ke ab koi jagah aisi kahin hoti,
Akele baithe rehtey yaad unki dil-nasheen hoti...

    Translation attempt

I have a wish that there was a place somewhere,
I would be alone and His remembrance would be my heart-warmer!

    Haz Khaja sab (rah)...

Mahve ghaflat yeh teri hasti nahi...
dekh jannat is khadar sasti nahi...
reh guzar duniya hai yeh basti nahi,
    ja(g)ah-e-aish-o-ishrat-o-masti nahi

Translation attempt (it seems to be getting worse with each thread : ( )
getting intoxicated by derailment, this is not your stature..
    Remember, paradise isnt so cheap...
transitory the world is, and not a place to stay...
and not a place to freak out, enjoy and make fun!

    How sad, nobody is contributing!

    anyway...

One by ghalib - inspite of all his stupidities and transgression, he has said some wonderful ashaar..some of his ashaar are quoted by our elders... who can forget the sher that hazatji maulana Ilyas sab (rah) used to say in his worry for the ummah....

Bak raha hoon junoon mein kya kya kuch,
Kuch na samjhe khuda karey koi....

I have heard that he was a reformed man at his end..there is one of his couplet that I read which goes like..

    Dar-e-waapasi ab sar-e-raah hai,
azeezon! ab bas Allah hi Allah hai..

    Translation attempt:
The door to retun is at the threshold of my path,
Friends! now its just Allah, only Allah....

One more that I found recently,

Banaakar faqeeron ka bhes hum ghaalib,
    tamasha-e-ahl-e-karam dekhtey hain...

I dont know what he tried to mean out of it, but I felt it is:

Donning the attire of the beggars,
I see the drama of His benevolence...

I love these lines told by Colonel Ameeruddin Sab (db) the great tablighi buzurg from hyderabad. In his late nineties; over 5000 people accepted islam on his hand. Nurtured by Hazatji yusuf sab rah. Very daring, his real life incidents sound like fairytales of adventure!

The lines are of Allama Iqbal (ra)... I am using (ra) for the allama because I have heard from very reliable source that hazatji Ilyas sab (ra) on allama iqbal's death stated that its the first time that a beard-cutter has entered the line of the wali-ullah!

These lines were taken by Colonel Sab db when he was describing his tablighi travails where he used to go for 4, 4 months putting a resignation to his jobs. It's sacrifices of these elders and the beginning people of tabligh, that the work has reached to today's stage..

    "maghrib ki waadiyon mein,
    goonji azaan hamari,
    thamta na tha kisi se,
    sailey ravaan hamara"

--In the valleys of the west,
    echoed our azaan,
    nobody could stop,
    the flow of our journeys...

When he used to say thamta na tha kisi se lines I felt such a surge of adrenaline...coming from a warrior of the efforts of deen, it was infectious and effective like only a man who made it happen can bring...may Allah Ta'ala bless us with the shadow of our elders forever....

    Can some one translate?
    jazaakAllahu khaira..

every desire has left my heart...
atleast come over now, for now my heart is secluded...

I have heard that hazat thanwi (ra) said that if I had a kingdom, I would have written it on your name for this couplet!

    The Poet Ghaalib said:
"Ishq ne hame Ghaalib, nikammaa kardiyaa
warnaa ham bhi aadmi the kaam ke"

Illicit love O Ghaalib has made you unworthy
when actually you were a man of worth

Hazrat Muhammad Ahmed Partaapghadi changed it to:
"Ishq ne hame Ahmed, mujallaa kardiyaa
warnaa ham bhi aadmi the naam ke"

True love (love for Allah subhaanahu wa ta'ala) O Ahmed, has enlightened you
when actually you were a man of name only

sorry about the translation..if anyone can do better please do

Sari Dunya Aap ki haami sahi,
har Qadam per mujh ko nakami sahi,

nayk naam islam per rakhhay khuda,
khalq kay halqay main badnaami sahi,

    Translation :

May the whole world be your ally
May I fail in every step I take ( for world )

May Allah keep my respect in Islam
I can bear if the whole world talks of my infamy

    [ Majzoob Rahimahullah ]

Zafar! Don't consider him a human, no matter how intellectual and wise he is,
if he doesn't remember God in prosperity and if he doesn't fear God in anger,

Bahadur Shah Zafar ( Although not from akabir or sulaha, but this couplet is very influential )
