He will take a diplomatic route. See those who mature always take a diplomatic route as they realize issues are not always black and white. Only those who have very limited interaction with the other groups generally take a more rigid approach. It's a difficult topic to cover and I would not like to be in his boots as you can't please everybody. My dad once heard shaykh hasan ali's talk on a similar topic a long time ago and said if I had heard this previously I would never have invited him to our masjid...
