Importance of learning/understanding Arabic

hi there, i have come across this lecture, which has inspired me to learn and understand arabic

as for now, does anybody know where i can learn how to understand arabic online ? or even books/dvd's

do you think such a book would help:

would the arabic be the same, etc ?

i am looking to start over the next few weeks as im trying to get my college assignments out of the way with

how many hours a week do you think i should spend trying to learn arabic, as i will only be able to do this on the weekends

If you can only devote the weekends to studying Arabic, then do one lesson a day (i.e. one on each day of the weekend), AND ONLY ONE, from the lqtoronto website's videos for the first Madinah Book. Limit yourself to that until the summer when you can devote 4-5 days a week to the study of Arabic. Believe, I speak from personal experience, do not get over ambitious while your semester is going on as you will neither learn much in the way of Arabic nor will you do well in your studies.

If you go through the videos for Book I (there are 18 videos on the site) and know it thoroughly, you will have prepared yourself quite well for the summer, at which point you can finish the remaining 78 videos if you study 4-5 days a week, doing one video each of those days. Once you're done with all the videos on the site, you will have a strong foundation in Arabic insha'allah.

Also, another website that you'll find useful (insh'allah) for revising the lessons from the lqtoronto.com website is www.madinaharabic.com it is also free. I highly recommend going over the lessons corresponding to what you cover in the videos during the week when you have time to keep what you learned during the weekend fresh.
