Asalaamu 'Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah,
As you may see this is my first post here on this forum. I had found and utilized the information posted on Sunniforum here and there but never had really checked the forum regularly. About two weeks back or so I started keeping up and reading threads on a daily basis. I've found it be educational (the 'ilmi posts/threads), spiritual (the posts/threads related to tasawwuf), and informative (the posts/threads regarding the latest news and/or history). Hence, today I mustered up the strength to finally post something.
After observing the different types of contributions to this forum, I have realized one consistency. If we take the education contributions for example we see that when any mas'alah is presented, the answer is taken from either a reliable scholar (whether that be one of the scholars on this website or a scholar that had posted on another website), a reliable book, or at least a person giving a reference that he heard so and so say this or that. We see something similar in the informative threads, whenever there is a thread regarding news stories, there's always some link to an article that verifies the story or at least a person mentions where they heard it. I have found that the reasonable brothers and sisters of the forum don't entertain hearsay when it comes to these things nor do they endorse the dissemination of it.
But, keeping all of this in mind I noticed one grave inconsistency that has puzzled me. This inconsistency is regarding the spiritual threads/posts on Sunniforum. I have found great contributions from brothers and sisters of the forum with their experiences in the company of the Masaikh, the sayings of the Mashaikh taken from books and websites, and links to their talks and articles. Along side this though I have also come across posts by people who sometimes, whether knowingly or unknowingly, give spiritual advice to others without any reference. Sometimes these are prescriptions of particular ma'mulaat and adhkaar that are given without any reference linking them to Nabi (saw) or any of the Mashaikh. This troubled me because no one seemed to say anything about it either. Shouldn't there be the same protocol when it comes to tasawwuf? That it should be taken from the Mashaikh who have traversed the path under a Shaykh and have received ijazah to guide others?
Keeping this in mind I propose to the Administrators/Moderators of this forum that there should be a new feature added that shows us the people on the forum who have ijazahs from reputable Mashaikh. For example, like there is a feature that denotes a 'Mufti' and 'Scholar' under their username, there should also be one that denotes a Shaykh of tasawwuf as well. I personally do not know any Mashaikh that post on this forum but I'm sure there are some users out there who have ijazah in this field. It would probably be better if we took benefit from them regarding these matters.
What do you brothers and sisters think about this idea? These are just my humble observances and opinions so please advise me if I have erred.
JazakAllah
Wassalaam
