    Default A certain Barelwi practice

    Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah,

My local masjid is barelwi-oriented and after every fard salah, the Imam would say ''Afdalul-zikr" and all of them would say la-ilaha-illa-Allah loudly together (the tune's quite catchy actually ). I never join them and just do my dhikr quietly (e.g. 33 SubhanAllah 33 Alhamdulillah...........)

So far, as per my knowledge permits and what others have told me, this practice appears to have no basis in the Sunnah. Can anyone confirm this? Is there some ahadith that shows this was practiced?

    Wassalam

not to give any fatwa or ruling here, but would you also say the same to the Dhakireen at the time of Abdullah ibn Mas'ood r.a when Ibn Mas'ood r.a called the dhikr of these dhakireen a bid'a? Those people were also saying Takbeer, Tahleel etc. The incident comes in Daarimi.

What about when it distracts those who join the jamaat late and get up to complete their salaah after the imaam says his salaam? It happened to me, once, I got up to complete my salaah when I joined jamaat late, the other 3 or 4 chaps in a barelwi masjid started this loud dhikr and I got muddled in my recitation.

    Surely not a good thing?

Also are we not supposed to recite even the quraan silently when others are praying?

Also is it not an issue that the barelwis have raised the status of doing this dhikr to such a level high level that those who do not do are frowned upon?

    Just a few thoughts.

No one is scared or fearful of remembering Allah tala. But every ibaadat has rules and regulations to the extent that even if a person was Praying nafl salaat he should be stopped if his prayer was in one of the forbidden times, and that is prayer, let alone dhikr.

So the 3 or 4 guys that are doing this, are they in any way representative of the whole fiqh? Even in the masjid I attend, there is no more than 5 or 6 who do it loudly out of a congregation of 100 odd

Just for the record I dont do loud dhikr myself, that because I choose not to, and neither do I participate in kissing my thumbs and all these practices that you wahabandafis think are shirk and in your opinions (forums opinions) make you worse than jew. I am not one for takfir.

Not as strong as this one:

The love for food by Ahmad Raza Khan
    October 31, 2010
In the last moments of Alahazrat, 2 hours, 17 minutes before his death, Mawlana Ahmad Raza Khan prescribed a list of dishes which his followers should prepare together in regards to the practice of “Fatiha.” He said as mentioned in his last directions published by his followers:

“If possible, Fatiha should be done twice or three times a week and provided with the following things:
    1. Cold milk [dudh ka barf khana saz], if possible from buffalow milk.
    2. Chicken biryani
    3. Chicken pilaw
    4. Shami kebab, even if it is from a goat.
    5. Parathay aur balai
    6. Custard [firni]
    7. Black dentils with adrak and other condiments [lawazim]
    8. Meat of bhari kucho
    9. Apple juice
    10. Pomegranate juice
    11. Bottle of soda
    12. Cold milk [dudh ka barf]“

    Original scan of Wasaya, p. 9: http://barelwism.files.wordpress.com...10/wasaya2.jpg

Notice how the leader of the Barelwis ordered twice to prepare cold milk.

Dr. Khalid Mahmud comments, “In one’s last moments pious people are busy in asking forgiveness. They are busy with dhikr and qur’anic recitation. One has thoughts about the Hereafter, but Khan sahib was busy with making a list of different kind of food.” [Mutali'a Barelwiyat, 1/21].

Please note, the book Wasaya Sharif [plural of wasiya] has been published for years by Barelwis. Nothing from this work is disputed by the Barelwis in anyway.

Why is this relevant to the thread?

Why are people unable to stick to answering the original question by the OP?

Why does everyone insist on throwing threads into a mud slinging match, when it usually has nothing to do with the original topic?
