Default when to start salat training for kids?

    salaams-

I heard from a shaykh that in tarim, yemen many people strat training their kids to get up for fajr salat at two years old! to start training them to pray.

I was wondering , what do most of you recommend? I know there are issues with bringing young children to the masjid, but maybe we should start waking them up at 3 - 4? years old to start getting them trained for waking up for salat. Should we pray at home with them to show them? Also, they probably won't be able to make wudu, so should they just "go through the motions" with you to get used to it?

    jazakallah for any suggestions...

    Walaikumussalam

MASHALLAH this is really very good advice to make children to get used to offer Salah (Prayers),because in childhood they don't have any responsibility so that this age is the best age when parents can give their children right path of Islam, even i think we should let them recite some Ayah of Holly Quran aswell, which can be helpful for them to be a good reciter of Holly Quran.
and there isn't any issue that they can do wudu or not because a child of 2,3 or 4 is not responsible for offering Salah this will be just his training...

    Slm,

I started with both mine when they were about 2 years old. They were initially going through the motions alone. Now they (1 is 4 and the other 6) are making wudhu and reciting after me (I let them.) They can't wait for salaah time!

I definitely found that the younger you can start the little ones the better. Start with some of the basics elements of salah at 2 or 3, such as showing them the positions and starting to get them used to the idea of wudu before prayer. I remember mine learned to love sajdah by the time they were 4 and were starting to learn some of the surahs shortly afterwards mashallah. Bring them on slowly and by the time they are 7 they should be at moving towards praying 5 times daily at the correct times and progressing with their pronounciation inshallah. Without instilling too much fear, make them aware that when they reach 10, salah becomes fard and if they make too many errors or are late for salah then they will be disciplined. But above all keep reminding them that Allah subhana wa ta'alaa loves them so much and has provided us with everything and so asking for our daily prayers 5-times a day is not much to ask for in return.

Waking a 2yr old up for fajr is little dumb, some kids can't go back to sleep at this age and it's the parents who suffer (usually the mother). I have a 2.5 year old and mashAllah she prays as she sees us praying, we don't wake her up for fajr that's just ridiculous at that age.

My son wakes ME up for fajr - hes 3 and prays with me often -i always invite him to make salat with me, and he ussually comes - he makes wudhu with me and puts on his qamees and his kufi and recites fatiha with me. Then he makes dua and always thanks Allah for all his toys, and asks Allah for "just one more dinosaur toy please please please". I wish the only thing I made dua to Allah for was just one more dinosaur toy.

its good to hear that your son wakes you up at fajr prayer.

well the time is good to train your child so to make him a regular for prayers at the age of 7
