this probably sounds crazy... but its quite necessary to take bathroom detergents with for haj. just keep these mini sprays/dettol/airfreshners in your handbag so that it makes it easier to use the bathroom - i know some people who take surgical masks with and they just use that when going to the bathrooms!

For a very detailed and thorough understanding of Hajj and Umrah I would recommend that every woman going for Hajj purchase the newest edition of A Womans Guide to Hajj and Umrah compiled by Mufti Muhammad Faruk.
Its available for 11.99 from most Islamic book stores or Azhar Academy London.
It answers most frequently asked questions especially those specific to women.

The book is divided into six parts:
1) Preparation for Hajj/Umrah
2) Procedure for Hajj/Umrah
3) Questions and Answers
4) Tables for Penalties
5)Table for the Four Schools of thought
6) Holy places to Visit

Avoid Junk and US-based Foods. When you come out of Masjid e Haram, you will find McDonalds, Pizza Hut etc. Dont try, but make sure you dont go these places. You will lose all your noor you got from your ibadah.
I wish your name to be engraved in my heart
I will be grateful to you change this dead heart
My heart is dark and so my eyes remain dry
Hypocrisy and hubris wont let me cry
So change my heart and forgive my sins this day
Dont leave me drowning here alone and astray

A recommendation by other women who've been for Hajj :
- to wear trousers which are elasticated at the bottom. These stay in place when pulled up and will free your hands for istinja etc whilst using the squatting type toilets in Mina.
- To either wear gloves/ or those long sleeves available in shops/ or to pin or button your sleeve between the thumb to ensure when you raise your hands for takbir and istilaam of hajr aswad
your arm is not exposed in the least.
- To buy padded socks if you feel your heels may hurt during tawaaf / sa'ee.
- To take travel washing line which has hooks and can be hung practically anywhere for drying small items.
- to take a small drawstring wash bag for the pebbles which can be hung from the wrist.
- to take an alarm clock if not taking mobile/cell phone.
