I felt like I didn't really want to live the typical American life and I didn't really want to go through dating, getting married and kids and then my husband cheats on me. I felt this American life is degrading and becoming less and less towards morals. I wasn't raised with religion. When my father passed away at age 21 I was in shock and sadness and I felt very very weak. I no longer felt safe. I saw my two best friends as strong Christians reel into their religion and how it helped them be strong in a time of uncertanty. I tried to digest the Bible but it was so complicated to understand. Christianity never attracted me but I had access few years later to Islamic books and they were the life blood to everything I felt in my heart but was not expressed. I knew I was different but didn't know there was a religion out there for me called Islam. I embraced Islam when I was 26.

    What can I say?
I mean, Islam touched and opened my heart.
    I was guided. Alhamdulillah.

Islam is the undeniable truth, so why would I have ran away from it?

Allah SWT guides whom he wills. A very touching experience indeed. Islam-is the complete submission of our wills to the Creator Almighty. And without sacrificing the things we are attached to or busy running after, we can't really get closer to Allah SWT. Allah snatch away all attachments from our hearts, except to elevate us and replace with His love only. May Allah always keep you and all of us in the straight path and make us a witness for each other on the day of judgment, not against us.

My journey and reversion: I have had a long, winding, and sometimes complicated spiritual journey. I have read many, probably too many, spiritual books and walked many spiritual paths: I was born, raised, and educated a Roman Catholic Christian. I was a college seminarian (studied history and philosophy) was a Jesuit seminarian for three years after that (and studied more philosophy).

I have worshiped with and practiced Zen and Tibetan Buddhism (saw the Dalai Lama last year here in NY), spent time in a Siddha Yoga ashram, was Mormon for a while, attended the Eastern Orthodox Church for few years, went to every Protestant denomination, and even gave atheism a shot.

ONE BIG PROBLEM: The only time I felt any true spiritual consolation and peace was when I read the Qur'an. I knew in my mind and heart for many years that Islam was true but I personally did not know any other Muslims and I knew that I would face great opposition from family and friends if I became a Muslim.

But I continued to read and learn, as best I could, on my own. But I learned that Allah is kind and merciful and on Tuesday March 29th 2011, I contacted whyIslam.org and within a few hours I received a call from a wonderful Muslim brother. There was nothing he asked me about the Islamic faith that I could say no to, I believed it all. When he asked if I thought I was was ready to take shahada (the Islamic profession of faith) I knew it was time. He walked me through it and on that Tuesday afternoon I became a Muslim!

I had a wonderful mentor from the local Muslim center (a young engineering student) to help me adjust and learn the proper prayers and other things. I now attend a wonderful masjid in my neighborhood where the brothers are kind and helpful.

My heart is at rest, finally......in the midst of evil, personal struggles and turmoil, and daily life. Yes I face much anger and opposition from some family and friends. I just go about my day as best I can, continually reading the Qur'an, praying and learning.....

The Qur'an...it's logic, clarity, and truth shines through all darkness. The salah, the most perfect way of prayer and praise to the Creator. That's what ultimately brought me to Islam.
