    Default how to power nap?

salaams- i heard that power napping is important Islamically because the kuffar way of 9-5 work is not the way we are made to be living. I try to nap a little after fajr and before work (I know this is not the best time, but there is no other time i can nap) and I have trouble getting to sleep, it takes me 30-40 minutes to sleep then I have to wake up. It seems I have racing thought while trying to get to sleep...I know some people/shuyookh sleep for 10-15 minutes in the middle of the daym then get up and ready to go! How do they do it?

    jazakallah khairun.

It is against the sunnah to sleep after fajr.
The best time for the power nap is around noon time.
The sunnah is not just about sleeping but resting is sufficient as Hadrath Umar [Allah be pleased with him] would lie down and get back up just to fulfil the sunnah however others would lie and relax, rest the eyes and then get up. This will be a good start until you are able to get into the habit of a proper sleep.

    Asalam Alykum wrwb,

    Brother try to avoid:
    1. Sleeping immediately after Fajr
    2. After Asr
    3. at the time maghrib

Sleeping at these times will block sustenance and rizq.

Power napping in islam is the sunnah nap after Zuhur. It amazingly coincides with the physiology of our body very well. .

Also, be aware of sleep debt. Sleep is something that cannot be missed, if your avg sleep is for 7 hours and if you sleep for 5 hours in a day, then your body will demand for the extra 2 hours and youl have to give it back to your body as debt.

And brother the 10 - 15 min sleep is only for the ulema and shuyukh, the people of Allah SWT, not for us !
If we power nap for 15 mins, we tend to get more exausted as our body is wide awake and we are trying to shut it down.

    To sleep on time -
    1. Avoid coffee/tea atleast 6 hours before bedtime
    2 Avoid Fat, spicy food.
    3. Drink milk before bed (known to be sleep inducing)
    4. Do not read, work or talk on bed. Bed should be = sleep. (adjust your subsconcious mind to this)
    5. Sleep on your right, stay still, breath in and out, slow and long and then recite the kalima.. youl fall asleep.

    Hope that helped.

    JazakAllah very insightful.
I am trying to find were it states it is sunnah after zuhr, do you have any reference I have been looking got it. Elder in bangladesh would sleep around noon and said this is the best time but he did not mention whether it was sunnah or not

    Asalam Alykum wrwb,

Brother Gabriel, youd know better than me. I am the wrong guy when it comes to quoting hadith but what I remember is that there is a lecture of Shaykh Hussain Abdul Sattar saheb about how a muslim should plan his day and he gives a detailed account of what should be done and what particular time, he mentioned that sleeping at noon is sunnah. But I could be making a grave mistake too, Can any brothers quote any hadith concerning this?

Brother msmirza, yes its true. Many scholars agree to this.

Helper_Man: Can you point me to the lecture by Shaykh Hussain Abdul Sattar?

I find it very difficult to consistently plan my days, even though i know i need consistency to function well. One of the reasons is that up here in the north the prayer times move around very much over the year. For example, now fajr is at about 04.00 and isha around 21.40, but in just a couple of months time there will only be 2,3,4 hours between isha and fajr. I becomes very difficult to follow the sunnah way of sleeping. Any suggestions?

    Sure brother,

The talk is called "Scheduling through sunnah", www.sacredlearning.com --> General Talks session --> recorded on 5.22.2009. I listened to it long time ago but its very beneficial. Try to download all those talks and lectures and burn a CD or use your mp3, ipod and listen. The point is to really absorb the advices. Repeat them and listen to them often. InshaAllah, youl benefit much.

Brother, sunnah way of sleeping is a "method", not the number of hours.

Method: You recite the supplication before going to bed, turn to your right, this position should be facing the qibla, put your hand under your cheek and legs slightly flexed.

This method is known to be medically beneficially in numerous ways ! But our intention should be that we are only following sunnah and not anythign else.

Brother planning of days depends on so many things like responsibilities, commitments, work etc. If you can provide some more information about your day, how you are currently spending it and how you would like to (goals), then inshaAllah, brothers or sisters will be able to help you.
