‘Uloom al-Qur’aan - Three Madani Chapters

Length: 8 Weeks
Pre-Requisites: None
Day & Time: Every Monday, 8:00PM – 9:30PM Chicago Time

This term in Uloom al-Qur’aan, students will engage with the translation and commentary of three chapters from the 27th and 28th juz: Al-Hadeed, Al-Mujaadalah and Al-Hashr. All these surahs are Madani in origin, and thus cover a rich variety of themes and detail upon several historical events in the lifetime of the Blessed Prophet (sws). Amongst the important concepts covered is a discussion regarding the status and merits of both the Muhaajireen and Ansaar Sahaabah (ra). In the wide range of historical events that come up in the verses, the Conquest of Makkah figures as the most prominent and massive one.

Instructor: Ustaadhah Zainab Ahmad
Length: 8 weeks
Pre-requisites: None
Day & Time: Thursday, 10:50AM - 12:05PM Chicago Time

This course continues with the explanation of hadith in the RiyaaD al-SaaliHeen which began last term. In this short term, students will engage with extremely powerful and spiritual sayings of our Blessed Messenger (sws) that will focus on inculcating the praiseworthy attributes and actions mentioned in the hadith. Learn to have tawakkul like the birds through the “Chapter on Certainty and Trust in Allah”, discover the secrets of istiqaamah in the “Chapter on Going Straight”, and feel the magnetism towards mujaahadah through the “Chapter on Striving.” We hope to continue the study of this entire book in future terms till its completion insha’Allah.

LifeStyles - Purification of the Heart II
Instructor: Ustaadhah Sobia Ahmed
Length: 8 Weeks
Pre-Requisites: None
Day & Time: Every Wednesday, 8:00 PM – 9:15 PM Chicago Time

This course is designed to introduce students to the importance of the spiritual heart in the development of their relationship with Allah (swt). Scholars of Tazkiya say that it is only after purging the heart of its impurities that one can begin to adorn it with positive attributes, just like a soiled cloth is first cleansed of its filth and then perfumed.
In term 1 of Purification of the Heart I, we explored how to purify the negative forces in ourselves focusing on major spiritual diseases like arrogance, envy, materialism, malice, and more. In this second term of Purification of the Heart II, we will expand on how to develop positive attributes like patience, gratitude, compassion, tolerance, positivism, will-power, and more. In this way, the course aims to build a stronger bond with Allah and His creation and at the same time find practical Islamic ways of addressing the personal problems faced by Muslim women today.

Courses with Special Timings for UK:

Kitab al-Hikam

Ibn `Ata Allah al-Iskandari, based in Cairo in the 7th century hijri, was a Sufi Shaykh who authored many classical writings of tasawwuf. Kitab al-Hikam, or the “Book of Wisdoms” is perhaps his most renowned and widely read work. A collection of short chapters, each consisting of aphorisms, it captures the reality and simple beauty of the path of tazkiya and tasawwuf (inner purification). This course aims to go over this entire text in order to reflect upon and discover the depth in this simple beauty and to inspire students to draw closer to the True Beloved by bringing these sayings into practice.

The Forty
Instructor: Ustaadhah Zainab Ahmad
Morning Section: Wednesday, 11:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. UK DST
Evening Section: Wednesday, 8:00- 9:15 p.m. UK DST

Al-Arb’aeen, or “The Forty” of the acclaimed hadith scholar Imam al-Nawawi, is a selection of forty of the most jami’ (comprehensive) sayings from the fountainhead of sacred knowledge, our Blessed Messenger (sws). Imam al-Nawawi himself states in the introduction to this text: “Every person wishing to attain the Hereafter should know these hadith because of the important matters they contain and the directions they give in respect of all forms of obedience…" This course thus aims to explore these hadith, with the hope of reviving our desire for a fortuitous Aakhirah and a hope of discovering our true selves as obedient slaves of Allah the Most High, and loyal followers of His Blessed Messenger (sws).
