    Question where to start?

aslaamalaikum (i can never get the spelling right)

you know them regulars you get at the mosque? who have great knowledge, have the muslim dress code, know their stuff, can preach abit etc

well after doing some thinking id like to be somewhat like this.
as iv started going to my local mosque regular (inshallah i shall try my best to keep it up). the mosque itself is a fair size and is currently getting extended.
the amount of people who turn for jamath is not great. less than one row. (but when its jummuah the mosque is pretty full, especially during holidays) (also, the numbers are increasing for jamath)

so the point im getting at the reputation of the mosque isnt huge (but is slowly increasing) and i want help build it. if you know what i mean?
because the regulars who go there are not exactly your average pious person with a beard, wearing thobes etc. and the imam himself i dont think speaks english greatly (manly urdu). and i dont think he is a sheik or anything.

so i want to start of learning about fiqh, attempt to improve my arabic + tajweed and all the usual...
so im asking what should i learn and where to start ? (if you could provide a checklist of something)
what books do you recommend reading

the reason why i want to do this is so in the future i can maybe give back to the community by teaching kids etc at the mosque, help build its rep , help offer other classes which is in my capability and be part of the mosque

the imam himself asked me if i could come regular to give athan and iqamah (however i cant do so due to colllege + other sports i do).

i think this can be a great boost for my iman

First of all, let me say we need more youth like you in our community. We are missing people with that zeal.

To start off, which demographic are you trying to attract to the masjid?

the youth. because iv noticed during jummuah there are many teenagers, like myself. i would say the more pious, but i would have to come across more pious first of all and gain knowledge.

i follow hanafi fiqh in general (e.g. is someone asks me, id say i follow hanafi). local mosques follow it (however they are also brelvis) and it seems promising. so i am influence by hanafis incl older siblings however i actually do not know much about the rulings on certain subjects, where they come from etc.

    Bro

For your Question: ' where to start?'
I will give you a short answer: "Start with the right Intention."

Yes the Intention to please Allah and obey him. Gain knowledge only for Allah. Spread knowledge only for Allah. Without Ikhlas our deeds are wasted. Remember the Hadith in which our Rasool says about the First three people who will be tried in the Day of Judgment. One of them is a man of knowledge who acquired it for worldly benifit and he was dragged on his face on the ground to Hell. (Naudhubillah). I m sure your Intentions is right now, But keep checking it on this journey especially if someone appreciates when you help. Our ego is very easily pleased with our good deeds and pride shows up very easily. This tendency to Show off (Riya) is described as Hidden Shirk. The Prophet described it as more Hidden than the crawling ant. So be on you toes always. Also whenever you start start with 'Bismillah'. Then the next thing is Adhab(Good Manners) without which we will not succeed much. Remember the Hadith, There is nothing weightier in the scales in the Day of Judgment than Good Manners. (Sorry advising about manners even though I ve very bad manners, I m trying to improve them.)
May Allah make it easy for you and all of us to strive in His path. Ameen.

If you want to learn Islaam, then go hunt 'Ulamaa [scholars]. Studying from Muslims who have some knowledge, might give you some benefits and increase in knowledge but will leave you more confused then ever before. Especially some articles on the internet. Trust me, I am speaking this from my heart. I've gone through it, you don't make the same mistake.

Learn the Traditional way that has been going on since 1432 years - under qualified scholars.
They will first teach you 'arabic, then basic Fiqh and 'Aqeedah, then the real journey of going into advance studies will begin, because at the start, the 'Ulamaa build the base of Islamic knowledge, one of which is 'Arabic.

However, if you cannot find scholars in your community, then if you can, go to a Darul 'Uloom abroad. Choices: India, Pakistan, S. Africa and U.K.
If you cannot travel for now, then for arabic these sites are highly recommended: shariahprogram.ca , learnarabic.ca , learnarabiconline.com.
And for courses Cordobaacademy.com is great, along with SunniPath.com and SeekersGuidance. I've done some lessons @ SeekersGuidance. It is good.

For tajweed you can go to a scholar and learn and there are usually 'Hifz Madrassah' that teach tajweed then memorize whole Qur'aan [or anything from the Qur'aan of your choice]. Hifdh/Hifz = memorization of Qur'aan.

Tell me if I have helped or not.
