translation of this verse?

In one of the random quotes, the aayah 21:18 (al-Anbiyaa) has been translated as such:

"Nay, We hurl the Truth against falsehood, and it knocks out its brain, and behold, falsehood doth perish! Ah! woe be to you for the (false) things ye ascribe (to Us)."

I understand the perhaps dimaagh (brain) might be derived from this verb or vice versa, but does damagha yadmaghu have the meaning of 'knocking out a brain'?

Thats interesting.

The word brain is Dimagh ( دماغ ) and the word for knock out or deal a blow is دمغ which really means to falsify or rebute or attack and abolish. The word for breaks is also بَزَغَ in the sense of revealing.

Ahh heres what i found:

دَمَغَ يَدْمَغُ دَمْغاً :- الرَّجُلَ. شجَّه حتى بلغت الشجةُ دماغه.-: الرجلَ: أخرج دماغَهُ.- ت الشَّمْسُ الرَّجُلَ: آلمت دِمَاغَهُ.- فُلاناً: غلَبه وسيطر عليه بَلْ نَقْذِفُ بِالْحَقِّ عَلَى البَاطِلِ فيَدْمَغُهُ.- المعدِنَ: طبعه بطابَع خاصّ؛ دمغ الفَنيُّ قِطعةَ الذَّهب

Damagh, Yadmagh, damgan.

The above states it being used in the context of "cutting" and "hurting" " going out" "Seceding" etc.

bro salman i cant seem to be reading the arabic text n thread starter av been looking it up..and this is what av come up with...''bheja nikal dena'' ''dimagh nikal dena''...thats what it says in tafseer...i looked for the english but coulnt find it anywhere...besides in tafserr it says to destroy but thats not the xact meaning hope you understand the urdu..if not..sorry... i looked it up in four different books...but coulndt find eng

"Bheja nikal dena" and "dimagh Nikal dena" although literally means "Taking out the brain" can refer to "knocking out". I think you already know that. The Arabic i stated also stated something similar for the definitions of Damagh, Yadmagh, damgan. Im guessing by knocking out they mean falsifying or abolishing, as i stated before.

Salaams...I am trying to find out the actual meaning...I rang up my colleage Moli Yas and asked him regarding damgha yadmaghu and he said literaly it means to take out the brain but he'll send tafseer-e-mazhari down and inshallah will let you know after checking the tafseer...Av been looking it up in 8 dictionaries but all have the same meaning...
