shaikh says diff with beralwi is in aqida. 4 main points of aqidaa - not jus fiqh
nur bashar- ilm ghaib - hazir nazir - mukhtar kull
shaikh says we call ourselve deobandi to differecite between real and fake sunis... just saying we are ahle sunah not enuf. other gruops also use this.

And he considers Barelwis to be "fake Sunnis"?

he didn't use the words fake, rather he said "if we say we are ahlesunnah..." [pauses] adience says "...wal jamah" "...well the brelwis also say that. therefore to call yourself deobandi means that you are ahlesunnah but in the indian subcontinent you have to differentiate yourself from the brelwis." if you didn't say that you would have to say: we are muslim, we are from the subconinent, we follow ahlesunnah wal jamah, we don't believe/agree with the excesses of the brelwis. so rather than making that long sentence you can saywe're "deobandi" because it entails all the above, not because it's a sect, but because it differentiates from those who as the brelwis do.
also he went into the four differences mentioned above at some length to clarify them for ppl.

This is saddening. I was under the impression that the Shaykh was "neutral" and did not discuss these issues.

for the record he never said that the brelos were "fake" ahlesunnah, he didn't judge them in that regard. but he did say that under the circumstances our predecessors were labelled (yes they were labelled as deobandies, and wahabis and kafirs read history b4 accusing deobandies of being sectarian) and forced to refer to themselves as deobandies so that people would not mistake them as having been associated with thinking that rasullah (saws) was noor etc. etc.
