    Question Allah's Greatest name: Allah

    Assalamu alaykum.
Scholars have said Allah's greatest name is Allah.
Other names such as Arrazaq are descriptive names of Allah.

We know Allah's names are part of Him in a way that befits him.

The name Allah doesn't describe a quality so it is sometimes called Allah's appropriate name.

Having said that, is it correct Islamic aqeedah to believe the name 'Allah' is part of Allah?
For instance Arrahman is a name of Allah, is part of Him in a way that befits him.

    Jazak Allah khair.

May Allah reward the brothers and sisters on here answering questions.

I'm sorry that I can't really say anything. But I can provide you with an al-Qur'an verse. Hope this can answer to your question.

Say, "Call upon Allah or call upon the Most Merciful. Whichever [name] you call - to Him belong the best names." And do not recite [too] loudly in your prayer or [too] quietly but seek between that an [intermediate] way. (17:110)

What do you mean by "Arrahman ......is a part..."?

Have you read the basic discussion of Name, Named and the relationship (Ism, Musamma, Tasmiyya...or Dall, Madlul, Dalallah?)

I don't know what you are talking about so please lets not get into that particular discussion.

I didn't say 'a part of Him' but 'part of Him.' If you cannot contribute inshaAllah please don't post in the thread.

When I said Arrahman I meant the name, not the word, the letters, but the name Arrahman is a name of Allah that is part of Him in a way that befits His Oneness.

Please stop probing unnecessarily and lets stick to the main topic I asked about.

What she means is Ar-Rahman is one of Allah's name. Duh. It's a simple understanding.

    Brother Cloud Strife:

I'm not sure if I understand your question right, but you are asking if, the name Allah, like Ar Rahman, is a part of Allah. From what I understand, it encompasses all the attributes of God if you think about it. Since Allah does translate to God [That is, with proper Arabic pronunciation. A slight change in pronunciation can change it to "a God" as opposed to "the one God" if you say "Ellah" instead of "Allah"], one would assume that it would encompass all the attributes of God, such as God's mercy, wisdom, etc.

You can call Allah or you can call Al Rahman, whatever you call, to Him belong the most beautiful names (Asmaaul Husna).

'Allahu Akbar' is not found in the Quran. There is 'zikrullaahi akbar' which means 'the remembrance of Allah is greater". Allahu Akbar or Akbar is not even found in the separate list called the 99 Names Of Allah (99 Names in the separate Asmaa Ul Husna).
