Hunting with Gun

I recently came across a Shafi'ie fatwa that says it is haraam to hunt with a firearm!

Ibn Hajar al-Haytami was asked regarding using guns which use gunpowder and fire, and he stated that it is unlawful to use such for hunting. (al-Fatawa al-Kubra al-Fiqhiyyah v. 4, p. 250) In Tuhfat al-Muhtaj, he also mentioned that it is unlawful. (v. 9, p. 329)

In conclusion, the Shafi’i School does not permit using a firearm for hunting

My question is for Shafi'ie users on this forum, why does your madhhab forbid using firearms for hunting and what is the rationale for this?

Also, the Prophet [sallallaahu alaihi wasallam] permitted hunting and eating animals by saying the name of Allaah and then releasing the hunting dogs, or saying the name of Allaah and then shooting your arrow to kill the animal. Firearms are basically just a modern version of the bow and arrow, so how could it be haraam to hunt with them?!

Asking laymen to comment about the rationale of a Fatwa made by a scholar is not a good idea. Ask a scholar itself. Period.

Brother there is nothing wrong with seeking knowledge from scholars. Allah says in the Quran: "So ask the People of Knowledge if you do not know" (Qur'an:21:7). Since you do not know the rationale behind the Fatwa, ask the People of Knowledge.

Actually the attitude that make us Muslims backwards is the attitude of NOT seeking knowledge from the Scholars.

If someone is hunting for meat (as many Muslims do) then what is wrong with shooting an animal? How is it any different that slaughtering a cow with a knife, or fishing?

.....A shotgun usually kills off the bird immediately if you hit the target, that is why hunters usually recite "bismillah Allahu Akbar" before shooting coz they cannot reach the bird in time, it is not a cruel massacre if you eat the meat, however just killing for game is what is cruel...

Assalamu alaikum.
I hunt & many of my friends hunt & we will shoot to impair the animal then cut the animals throat in allahs name.
It does say in a verse of the Quran that using a weapon of force to kill an animal is haram eg: gun, arrow etc I suppose.
