How are you supposed to know just by looking at the pics? Better to call the brand makers and confirm from them.

I am no expert but from what i have learned and understood the improvement of the processing of all types of leather has improved to such an extent that it is now very difficult to tell what type of leather it is, I shall find out more and post later.

They have no brand, not even a etiquet inside. All were buyed from market or else. I have had these with me since i started praying.

One wallet i used for 7 years, and the other one 3 years or so, and the belt also very long.

    Have a look here:

Telling the difference between pig leather & cow leather

Valid piece of info from there:

Pig leather: it's slightly different, it looks more like suede but feels like leather. I **nearly** bought a pig leather jacket, but they couldn't tell me how to care for it. I only knew it was pig leather when I asked why it said leather but looked like suede. The girl at Danier (a leather goods store) had to look it up in her book. I was shocked; I didn't even know they made things out of pig leather except footballs (American footballs).
Cow leather is of average thickness, strong and sturdy. While compared to cow leather, the pores of pig leather are further apart and wider, which gives pig leather its characteristic unevenness. That makes it relatively suitable for casual goods..

It is not always possible with the naked eye, especially if there has been some sort of finish added. Pig leather is being used on lots of things now including furniture and for this you would need to look at the leather through a microscope, this will let you see the hair follicles which are different in a pig and a cow and other animals. The formation of the hair follicles and number of them are different in each animal.

It is actually very easy with the naked eye to see cow versus pig leather. The pigs have fewer and coarser hairs- the center spot of each grain ridge is the point at which the folicle split through the epidermis. Cow leather would indeed need a microscope normally to see these spots which are greater in number- but pig doesnt one "hole" per grain "bump" makes it easy to tell.
    Hope this is of help

The hairs of pig are very hard and when they are removed from the skin they leave a distinct hole mark on the leather. Secondly, these holes are in group of threes. Which means that you will find group of three holes and these groups are at little distance from each other. On the other hand the cow or lamb skin the hole marks are not visible and if at all they are visible they will not be in group of three holes. They cannot be seen visually.

    Oh and my own experience:

Question: I want to buy "Men's Hush Puppies Glen-black leather". Before doing so, I want to know what animal's leather they made of?
Answer: Our "Glen" is constructed from cow hide leather. However, All suede HushPuppies are constructed from pigskin.

    Assalamu 'alaikum wa rahmatullah,

I have a pair of shoes where the label clearly has three diamond symbols indicating it is from synthetic material, but it still has rows of 4 close dots. I tried contacting the company but contact died off. Could I assume this is fine due to the label indicating it is synthetic?

    JazakumAllahu khair,

Also brother maybe you could try looking for a label first and see if it has three diamond symbols which would indicate it is synthetic inshaa Allah:

I am not sure though whether belts and bags would have those symbols...

If someone has prayed unknowingly for 7 or 10 years or more (as wallets lasts long) with a pigskin leather wallet in his pocket are his prayers valid ?
