Default Br. Ahmad Arain, UCLA Student, is missing

Although I'm aware that most of the members on this forum reside in the UK, I would like to ask all of you to make Dua'a for Br. Ahmad Arain, a UCLA student who has been missing since July 23rd.

Ahmad was going to UCLA via MTA bus around 8:30 AM on Friday July 23, 2004. The last contact made between Ahmad and his mother was approximately around 10 am when he confirmed he is still on MTA bus enroute to the campus. He explicitly arranged to have his brother pick him up at 5:30 pm at the Disneyland bus stop Friday (July 23rd) evening. We have not heard from him as of yet. His family and friends are extremely worried and request anyone with information or anyone who saw him on Friday the 23rd, please call the number below:

    news about his disappearance

    http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&e...+Arain&filter=0

ANAHEIM — The family of a UCLA computer sciences student today asked
for the public's help in finding the student after he boarded a bus
for an appointment with an academic counselor and disappeared.
Ahmad Yaseen Arain, 20, was reported missing by family members late
Friday night, said Sgt. James Vandenberg of the University of
    California Police Department.

He was last seen boarding an MTA bus at the Disneyland stop in
Anaheim at 8:30 a.m. that day, according to a flier distributed by
    his family.

Arain had an appointment with a counselor at UCLA at 11:30 a.m. but
he never arrived, said Vandenberg. He was due to return to his
Anaheim home at 5:30 p.m. that day, according to his family.

The missing student was last in touch with his mother by cell phone
around 10 a.m. Friday, saying he was switching buses in downtown Los
    Angeles, according to his family.

The young man was "not a gang type, not a party type. He was an
academic type -- an honors student," his mother, Sulayman Arain,
    said.

She said that although he was always conscientious and responsible,
that he had become even more so since the death of her husband,
    Ahmad's father, in 1997.

The Arain family members are of Pakistani descent, although all are
United States citizens. Ahmad Arain's mother said she has been in the
U.S. since 1984 and that her children, including Ahmad, were born
    here.

Vandenberg said authorities have found no evidence that Arain met
with foul play, or that he was under mental duress or suffered from
    physical problems.

Volunteers have called hospitals in Los Angeles and Orange counties
in an effort to locate Arain, with no success. They also have
    distributed fliers.

Authorities reportedly won't start searching for the student until
tomorrow, after he has been missing for 48 hours.

UCLA Student Vanishes Without A Trace

    Ahmad Yaseen Arain, 20
WESTWOOD — The family of a missing UCLA student is offering a $10,000
reward for information leading to his return.
Ahmad Yaseen Arain, 20, left his home in Orange on Friday for a trip
to Westwood, where he had an appointment with an academic counselor
at 11:30 that morning. He never showed up.

For days, volunteers have distributed fliers, checked with bus
passengers and called hospitals, but no information on the man's
    whereabouts has been forthcoming.

Arain's family will hold a news conference at the offices of the UCLA
Police Department late this morning to announce a $10,000 reward for
    information leading to his return.

The driver of a No. 460 bus said Arain boarded the bus Friday morning
and got off at Manchester Avenue and the Harbor (110) Freeway in
order to take the No. 550 bus to Westwood, Nancy Greenstein of the
    UCLA police said yesterday.

It's unknown if Arain subsequently boarded the No. 550 bus,
    Greenstein said.

Zahida Arain said she spoke to her son on his cellular telephone
about 9:45 a.m. on Friday. He told her he was switching buses.

"I'm praying for his safety," she said.

Greenstein said investigators are following up on calls from the
    public.

Arain was reported missing by family members late Friday night. Since
then, authorities have found no evidence that Arain met with foul
play or that he was under mental duress or suffered from physical
problems, said UCLA police Sgt. James Vandenberg.

Arain, who rents an apartment near campus during the school year, had
returned home for the summer. It was his first time making the bus
journey from Anaheim to UCLA, according to his brother, Sulayman.

Arain was expected back in Anaheim about 5:30 p.m. Friday, Vandenberg
    said.

The computer sciences student is "not a gang type, not a party type,"
his mother said. "He was an academic type -- an honors student."

She said her missing son was always conscientious and responsible and
became even more so after the 1997 death of her husband.

Arain, who family members said is enrolled at UCLA on a full
scholarship and earns good grades, was preparing to start his senior
    year at UCLA.

Born in Pakistan and brought to the United States as an infant, the
missing man is a U.S. citizen who has made several trips to his
    homeland, most recently in 2002.

Arain is about 6 feet, 180 pounds with dark hair and dark eyes. He
wears glasses and was carrying a black backpack.

Everyone has heard by now about 20-year old Ahmad Arain who has been missing
since Friday. To help find him, Ahmad's family and friends have decided to
    offer a reward of $10,000.

We urgently need to raise funds to help cover these costs. Everyone, please
give something, no matter how small the amount. We must do everything we can
    to help find Ahmad.

Please make checks out to ICOI (Islamic Center of Irvine) and mail to the
    following address:

    10351 Parkview Ave.
    Westminster, CA 92683

    Salaam alaikum.
Thank you for pointing out this connection that Ahmed Arian has with the
Muslim community of Albuquerque. I want to add more details so that our
community can understand this connection even better.

His father, Saifullah Arian was a devout Muslim and the President of our
community when we had just started construction of our present mosque. He
provided us leadership and gentle guidance in those early stages of our
construction project. In fact, all the reinforcing steel that was placed in
the foundation of the mosque was cut and bent to the required shapes in the
backyard of Br. Saifullah's home by the brothers who were volunteering for
the project. This was not an easy task. Endless pieces of these steel rods
were cut to required sizes, bent into different shapes and transported to
the site of the mosque to be placed in the foundation. This slow and
laborious effort went on for several weeks.

Soon after that stage, Br. Saifullah lost his job and decided to move his
family to Los Angeles. A few years after his move he was diagnosed with
cancer and passed away. Ahmed Arian who is 20 years old now was just about
a year or two old at that time when we started building our mosque.

I hope this anecdote illustrates why we owe a debt of gratitude to this
family and why we must pray even more for their well being and safety. They
have already been tested once with the early death of Br. Saifullah. May
Allah Bless Br. Saifullah and guard his family against harm and hardships.
    Ameen.

Please feel free to share this e-mail with the community.

    Thank you.
    Abbas Akhil

    Assalam-o-Aleikum

Br. Ahmed is the son of a close family friend of my family and of
this community. Our current ICNM could never had been bulit without
the help of his father. PLEASE PLEASE keep him and his family in
your du'ahs that he returns safely. Ameen!

Just as an update for those who care, there has been very little progress in this case. Few of my close friends and classmates are involved in the search and they've been putting alot of effort into it, may Allah reward them. The police aren't taking much part because they state br. Ahmad was over 18 so its not much of a priority to them. Which is why they're finally looking into the video recording on the buses one whole week later. May Allah solve all of our affairs.

Ajeeb thing is, before the incident, my mother happened to be on a flight on which br. Ahmed's mother was also flying. Couple of weeks later after seeing the news, my mother immediately recognized the picture of his mother. It just shows how strange this life is. One second everything is perfect, the next second, by the will of Allah, everything is turned upside down. How fortunate is the one who has taken Allah as his mawlaa, as his protector. Nothing will happen to that person except that it will be a means of their increasing in imaan and their status in al-jannah. May Allah prevent us from succumbing to the evil magic of this cursed dunyaa.

i actually know this brother personally, met him a few times, here is a message from his younger brother:

Assalaumu-Alaikum everybody. Alhumdililah Ahmad Arain came home today safe and unhurt. On the way to UCLA Ahmad had suffered from some sort of mental breakdown/blankout. Somehow he ended up in Tijuana, Mexico. He wandered the streets for a month without food surviving only on water. Then some family found him on the side of the road and took him in. About 2 weeks after, he regained his senses and then contacted us. Alhumdulilah he is safely home. Jazak-Allah Khairun everyone for their duaas. Allah SWT took care of him and answered our prayers by returning him home safe.

    alhamdulillah, subhanAllah, Allah hu akbar.
