Salam alaikum,
I want to learn Arabic using some sort of selfstudy online method. I'm not interested in the traditional live student-teacher approach...
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks

If you want to do self-study and not with a teacher I am afraid you will learn nothing at all.

As somewhat of a language person, I can tell you that Arabic is a very difficult language for a Westerner to learn. If you have access to a teacher, I would by all means go that route. If for some reason you can't, then there are enough resources on the web to study on your own, but you must think of the effort in terms of climbing Mt. Everest by yourself.

Salam alaikum,
I highly recommend ArabicPod.net, they have over 400 mp3 podcasts to download from, videos, apps and other cool stuff. All their beginner podcasts are free. I have been learning Arabic for over a year using arabicpod and have made great progress. I have tried other methods but have found podcasts to be the most effective since they’re fun to listen to and convenient as they can be downloaded to any MP3 player.
Also, they do many dialect lessons.

Thanks brothers. All websites suggested seem great, I didn't know they existed. Out of all of them, I will probably use ArabicPod more, as I like the idea of listening to a podcast while driving to work or jogging in the gym. That is exactly what I was after. I heard a few of their podcasts, and the some of them are quite funny, thanks sixpack434
Assalaamu alaikum,
I would like to recommend qibla.com. Their Arabic courses are excellent, mashaallah.
