Doing Without the Pleasures of this World:

    Abu' l-Abbas as-Sa'idi said :

"A man came to the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and said, 'Oh Messenger of Allah! Guide me to such an action, that when I do it, Allah will love me and the people will love me?'

He said: "Do Not have love for this world and Allah will love you & do not be attracted to what people have and then the people will love you''.

You desire this world when the hereafter is better for you!

In the Qur'an we find this world & the next world described in the following terms:

"Yes you prefer the life of this world, but the next world is better & more lasting." 87:16-17

"You desire the attractions of this world, but Allah desires the next world for you." 8:67

"And they are happy with the life of this world, but the life of this world is small comfort compared to the next world." 13:26

Then why are we sacrificing the hereafter for this world?

So let the competitors compete for the Hereafter!

Oh Slaves of Allah! Let us compete and rush towards the forgiveness of Allah and Paradise which is as wide as the heavens and Earth for we must not slacken in doing so lest we are taken all of a sudden by death.

The Prophet (Sallallahu `alaihi wasallam) said: “Being laid-back is best in every matter except for good deeds" (Abu Daawood & Al-Haakim).
So let us not compete for who has bigger houses or more suceess and money in this world but let us compete for the highest ranks in the next world:

“… So for this let the competitors compete" (Al Mutaffifeen:26) and also, “.. So race to (all that is) good… (Al-Baqarah:148).
So let us begin NOW to compete NOT for this temporary existence but for eternity in the hereafter, for there will only be regret for those of us who wasted our precious few seconds in this life without doing much good:

Ibn Masood said: “I have never regretted anything as a day spent of my life without doing good deeds.”

May Allah enable us to spend each and every second from now until death doing everything to please him and refraining from anything which angers or displeases him. Ameen

The Angel of Death has been Assigned to You!

It is narrated that ‘Uthmân b. Áffân – Allâh be pleased with him – said in a sermon:

Son of Adam! Know that the angel of death who has been assigned to you has not ceased to pass you and move on to others, ever since you have been in this world. But it is as if he is about to pass someone else and move on to target you, so be careful and prepare for him (by correcting your deeds). And do not forget him, for he does not forget you. And know o son of Adam, if you are heedless about yourself and do not prepare, no one else will prepare for you. You must meet Allah the Mighty and Majestic, so take for yourself and do not leave it to someone else. Peace be on you.

Paradise: There is Nothing Like It:

"It is sparkling light, aromatic plants, a lofty palace, a flowing river, ripe fruit, a beautiful wife & abundant clothing, in an eternal abode of radiant joy, in beautifully constructed high houses." (Ibn Maajah)

"Bricks of gold & silver, & mortar of fragrant musk, pebbles of pearl & sapphire, & soil of saffron. Whoever enters it is filled with joy & will never feel miserable; he will live there forever."(Tirmidhi)

Ibn Qayyim (Ra) said: "Losing time is harder than death, as losing time keeps you away from Allah and the Hereafter, while death keeps you away from the worldly life and people."

Ali (Ra) said: "Everyone who is taken by death asks for more time, while everyone who still has time makes excuses for procrastination (putting off important tasks)."

So let us make the best of the little time we have left & not put off preparing for the Hereafter.

The stark realisation that death can take us at any second:

The stark realisation that death can take us at any second should shock us into immediate action. It should make us realise that we have no time to waste as each second that goes by could be our very last. Therefore we must prepare for our deaths NOW and we should realise that we are on borrowed time. This life is merely a journey until we reach our final destination in the hereafter.

Abu Hurairah (Ra) narrated that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, “Hasten to do good deeds before six things happen: the rising of the sun from the west, the smoke, the Dajjal, the beast and (the death) of one you or the general turmoil.” (Muslim 7039)

Therefore on a daily basis we should contemplate, ponder and reflect upon this realisation and it will have a significant impact upon our iman, as it will make us realise the temporary nature of this life and the fact that the real life is that of the hereafter which is for eternity. It will also make us realise that each second that goes by can NEVER be regained.

Daqaq (Ra) says, 'Who ever remembers death frequently, will benefit in three ways: he will hasten to repent, he will become content, and he will be active in worship. Whoever forgets death will be punished in three ways: he will delay repentance, he will no longer be content with what is sufficient, and he will be lazy in worship.

Therefore let us act NOW and do and say everything that will benefit us in this world and the next and will please Allah and refrain from doing or saying anything that will be detrimental to us in this world and the next and will anger and displease Allah.
