Imaam Abu Hanifah (rahimahullâh) said: "Stick to the narrations and the way of the salaf, and beware of the newly invented matters for all of it is innovation" (Sawnul Muntaq of as-Suyuti pg.32)
why write on the front cover that it was written by moulana ashraf ali thanwi (ra) when it wasnt? thats lying isnt it?
It's kind of shocking to find this out.

Wow.
Can this be true ?

Uhm not properly, especially since it wasn't Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (ra) to ascribe the work to himself "stealing" it from the real author (if that is confirmed), but rather the author himself ascribing his work to Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi (ra).
At uni, my teacher in "Islamic subjects" some years ago said that that was actually quite typical in the old classical times: students would ascribe their own works to their teachers or other influential scholars (and this actually shows their selflessness and lack of riya' masha'Allah)..
Interesting stuff..
well, people , even muftiyan trust behesti zewar very highly because of it suppose to writetn by sh.ashraf ali(rh). they wouldnt trust and propagate the book same way if the ycome to know who originally wrote it. As the name of the author influnce the contains of the book, so people should be careful of it. writing something and having fear that it might bring riya or other things, they better adopt some different method, instead using other names on their own work.

Remember, the English edition is not the full translation of Baheshti Zewar. Also, the last 11th part called Baheshti Gohar is mostly taken from the book ilm al-fiqh by Mufti Abdush Shakur Tirmidhi, as also acknowledged by Ml. Thanwi in the introduction of the 11th part, where the most issues surrounding men, like purity, prayer, jumu'a, sajda sahw, fasting, are taken from ilm al-fiqh. The author (Ml. Thanwi) added and changed some stuff though and some were taken from other ulama (topics about deceases)

And if he were to ask for a gentle lady in marriage, he would be refused, and when he leaves the world it does not miss him, and if he goes out, his going out is not noticed, and if he falls sick, he is not attended to, and if he dies, he is not accompanied to his grave.
