Going through the article posted by Moulana abuhajira, I see that a condition for validity of masah in all schools is that if water is poured on the socks (wiping does not equal pouring), the socks should not allow water to go through and wet the skin. Most of the socks that we wear even get wet when we walk across a wet floor, let alone have water poured on them.
But it is mentioned that this is a controversial issue with the Hanbali madhhab so maybe there is such a difference of opinion.
It is also mentioned that only a handful of scholars (about 4 or 5 are named within the article posted) have permitted masah on any socks.
Nevertheless, the tone taken by the speaker and the language used in the clip posted in the original post seems to not merely present the opinion that wiping over regular socks is okay, but also charges other opinions (upon which there are no doubts and there is ijma') of making things difficult and thus are invalid opinions.
