Default Best recitation to listen to for hifz?

    Salam alaikum,

I have been drawn to listen to Mishary Bin Rashid Alafasy, but his recitation is very slow. What recitation do you recommend I listen to to memorize quran. I prefer nothing too fast or slow. I also prefer more Arab qaris then non arabs.

    I would recommend:

Sheikh Mahmud Khalil al-Husari - an indisputable excellent master.

    or

Sheikh Abdurrahman al-Huzayfi - a really great reciter.

Both recitations should be high quality studio Murattal style recordings.

    Here is:

    Al-Husari's murattal mp3 http://flawlessquran.com/site/?p=168
    Al-Husari's murattal flac: http://flawlessquran.com/site/?p=165

    Al-Huzayfi's murattal flac: http://flawlessquran.com/site/?p=106

Flac is a special audio codec that ensures one-to-one CD quality.

Foobar is a good digital player for flac audio playback.

Ohh and Khalifa at-Tinaiji is also good, especially for children: http://flawlessquran.com/site/?p=133

    What’s Murattal recitation?

Murattal or Tarteel recitation, as per the verse, “and recite the Qur’an with murattal recitation.” (Qur’an, 73:4) is a style of recitation where all words are pronounced distinctly, clearly, and in consistent manner according to their proper measures defined in the science of tajweed. Usually in this style reciter is expected to make a pause at the end of each verse, except a few ones.

    What’s Mujawwad recitation?

Mujawwad recitation is similar to Murattal, except that it is performed in a slow and melodic manner where the voice and deep breath of a reciter plays an important role. In this style, a qualified reciter sometimes would recite the same verse over and over with different readings called Qiraat. That’s why rather than consistency of elongations, there may be variations in this regard but within the boundary defined by the science of tajweed.
