    This fall, Zaynab Academy Online is offering a range of courses for beginners in classical Islamic learning, specially designed to meet the needs of students, professionals and other busy women who want to progress in their Islamic knowledge and spiritual development.


    *Note: All classes will be conducted live over internet. All students must have access to high-speed internet and headphones for class.

    COURSES:

    Al-Qur'an: Translation and Commentary


    This term in Uloom al-Quran, students will engage with the translation and commentary of 8 chapters from the 28th and 29th Juz. These chapters cover a rich variety of spiritual and legal themes. Some important topics concerning women are also with such as their bai’ah in the lifetime of the Prophet sws and their rights in the matters of divorce and education. The treaty of Hudaibiyah is the most prominent historical event that comes up in these chapters.

    Al-Hadeeth: Riyaad al-Saaliheen

    This course continues the explanation of hadeeth in the Riyaad al-Saaliheen that was started in earlier term. In this term, students will engage with extremely powerful and spiritual sayings of our Blessed Messenger (sws) that will focus on inculcating the praiseworthy attributes and actions mentioned in the hadith. Discover the different noble actions in the "Chapter on many paths of good", learn the beauty of moderation in ibaadah in the "Chapter on Moderation in Worship" and yearn for istiqamah through the "Chapter on Perseverance". We hope to continue the study of this entire book in future terms till its completion insha’Allah.

    Fiqh: Laws of Purification - Part I

    This course aims to introduce students to Islamic Sacred Law. The 9-week course will entail a study of rulings pertaining to a Muslim’s everyday matters, based on rulings derived from the Hanafi school of legal thought. To this end, our main text will be Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi’s classical manual Beheshti Zewar. Emphasis is on learning laws regarding purification (taharah). Students are not expected to have prior knowledge in law or legal juristic methodology (usul-ul-fiqh). The course aims that by the end of this term, it should have met the need of a Muslimah aspiring to perform the taharah properly.

    Lifestyles: Mothers of the Believers (ra)

    This part of the Lifestyles course will cover the biographies of the wives of Prophet (sws), focusing on their lives after marriage to the Prophet (sws). The course will cover special glimpses and highlights from their lives as wives of the Prophet (sws) with a cursory view of their, personal, spiritual and marital lives. Some ahadith pertaining to the distinctive qualities of the wives of Prophet (sws) and his relationship with them will also be covered.

    ASRA HASAN currently lives in Las Vegas where she teaches Hadith, Fiqh and Arabic grammar to university students and young professional women. Asra also delivers talks on purification of the heart and drawing closer to Allah (swt). Asra was born and raised in Lahore and received her B.Sc. in Accounting and Finance with Honors from the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). She began her pursuit of classical Islamic learning at Zaynab Academy studying Quran, Tafsir, Hadith, Fiqh, Usul al-Fiqh, and Arabic under traditional scholars for four years, completing the Dars-e-Nizami curriculm and receiving the Alimiyyah degree.


    SAMEERA SHAH currently lives in Houston where she teaches Quran, Tafsir, Hadith, Fiqh, and Arabic grammar to university students and young professional women. Sameera also delivers talks on purification of the heart and drawing closer to Allah (swt). Sameera was born and raised in Lahore and received her B.Sc. in Economics with Honors from the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). She began her pursuit of classical Islamic learning at Zaynab Academy studying Quran, Tafsir, Hadith, Fiqh, Usul al-Fiqh, and Arabic under traditional scholars for four years, completing the Dars-e-Nizami curriculm and receiving the Alimiyyah degree.

    SIDRA ALVI currently lives in Dubai. She delivers talks on purification of the heart and drawing closer to Allah (swt).     SOBIA QASIM was born and raised in Karachi and received her Bsc in Economics with Honors from the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). She began her pursuit of classical Islamic learning at Zaynab Academy studying Quran, Tafsir, Hadith, Fiqh, Usul al-Fiqh, and Arabic under traditional scholars. Sobia continued her studies and completed the Dars-e-Nizami course at Mahad-ul-Khalil, Karachi receiving the Alimiyya degree. Sobia has taught O-levels Islamiyat at The City School, Karachi and is teaching Quran, Tafsir, Hadith, Fiqh and Arabic grammar to university students and young professional women in Karachi. Sobia also delivers talks on purification of the heart and drawing closer to Allah (swt).

    Zaynab Academy (for women) was founded in 2005 by Sobia and Kamaluddin Ahmed as a nonprofit, nonpartisan and nonpolitical educational institute dedicated to classical Islamic learning and Spirituality.     Shaykh Kamaluddin Ahmed

    Shaykh Kamaluddin Ahmed was born and raised in Manhattan, New York City. He received a BA in Political Science and Arabic & Islamic Civilization from the University of Chicago. Shaykh Kamaluddin then spent many years in Pakistan studying full-time classical disciplines of Islamic learning including tafsir of the Qur’an, Hadith, Arabic Grammar, law and legal theory. He received the ‘alimiyyah degree as well as formal authorization to transmit legal opinion (ifta). From 2005-2010, he was a lecturer of Islamic intellectual history, legal theory, spirituality, and ethics at one of the Pakistan’s leading universities. Currently, he is a postgraduate student in Islamic intellectual history and legal theory at the University of Oxford. For over seventeen years, Shaykh Kamaluddin has consistently remained in the close company of the highly respected Shaykh Zulfiqar Ahmad and was granted ijaza by him in Tasawwuf (Islamic Spirituality) in 2002. Since then, he has continually tutored seekers on the path to becoming closer to Allah. Shaykh Kamaluddin divides his time between the UK and Pakistan, guiding students and delivering lectures at masajid, universities, and institutions of learning. The Shaykh and his wife have also established institutes of classical Islamic learning for women in Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad (www.zaynabacademy.org) and an online institute that offers free courses to women around the world (www.zaynabacademyonline.org).

    Alimah Sobia Ahmed

    Alimah Sobia Ahmed was born and raised in the US and received her BA in Sociology and Arabic and Islamic Civilization with double honors from the University of Chicago and Masters of Education from the University of Illinois. She went on to study the Dars-e-Nizami course full-time for four years at Jamia Zainab, Lahore and received the Alimiyya degree. In 2005, Sobia founded Zaynab Academy in Lahore, where she teaches classes in Quran, Tafsir, Hadith, Fiqh, and Arabic. Sobia also delivers talks on Islam and drawing closer to Allah. Her students include students and alumni of LUMS, LSE, Kinnaird, FAST, BNU as well as young professional women.
